i have and do personal protection with my dogs. started with a neo, worked and work corso and use a presa. i got hooked into personal protection for three reasons, number one as a safety measure for my home and family, number two is to be a part of using a specimen of a breed for what is was created to do, to see a member of a breed do what (assuming it is a correct specimen) it's ancestors and founders were trying to acheive. number three and the one i was not expecting is the bonding that occurs between dog and handler. i have participated in about every area of dog competition and had a great time with almost all of them. with this... the dog is going beyond what other events have asked, to the dog, he or she is saving my life. the bonding that develops is incredible. i have never achieved that level of bonding in any other event. when we train, i ask my dog to give it all. i mean all. with the great dogs i have and have had, they go over and above. if every other reason i have for this kind of training became invalid, i would still train because of the bonding that occurs and is strengthened through this type of training.
