Lure Coursing - video

Yogi's first try at lure coursing today - I think he's found his calling in life. Doesn't seem to particularly prey driven, so imagine my surprise when he started whinning while watching the first dog go and then after his turns we couldn't catch him to end the turn. So thrilled, I definitely see some trials coming his way! Lillie starts next week.

He was having so much fun! I can't wait to see Lillie.

I have never seen him with that kind of drive before, it was so awesome! And not even the part where he's actually running, but trying to hold onto him while the other dogs were running was incredibly difficult. I am sore from trying to hold onto 70 pounds of pulling, jumping, whinning muscle! I can't wait to see Lillie either! She already chases vermin a lot more than Yogi!

Haha, you guys. My husband was lamenting my Amazon wish list at Xmas time. He said that everything was for the dogs, including random notes for things that Amazon doesn't even sell - like Dog Wise gift cards, a Tawzer dog subscription, etc. This year it's leatherworking tools and supplies in addition to that other stuff that I didn't get. So I can make dog stuff!!

Yeah, I consider my dogs my hobby so that's how I justify all the equipment and classes and stuff. I mean, listen to other people talk about their hobbies and there are some out there that cost a lot more than doing dog stuff... That's how I explain it to people. I'm not a fur mom and these are not my fur babies. It seems like thats what people usually think when I talk about my dogs, like I'm one of those people who have gone off the deep end with dog my dogs in tow, lol.

So Lillie was absolutely amazing at lure coursing today! I shouldn't be surprised at her strength, but I have never felt anything like trying to hold onto her harness once the lure started. Unfortunately, I do not have a video of her running. This is the first lure coursing class this instructor has ever taught and there were a lot of issues... She didn't know how to keep the lure at the right speed to keep Lillie focused on it without slowing it down too much so Lillie kept catching it... Or she lost sight of it and figured out it comes around the corners so she pawed and bit the corner things and broke them. 3 times. And she broke the wire twice because she was able to catch the lures and try to run away with them... I have some videos of that, though lol. I was extremely impressed with Lillie's performance, not so much with the instructor's, although she tried hard. On Lillie's last run she started the lure while I was still holding onto the leash and was trying to unhook it, bought took my arm off. I' m tempted to see if I can switch and have Lillie join Yogi's class on Sundays and finish the session.
