Obedience classes...... With female that maybe in a heat?

i have signed us all up for Obedience classes..... I swear my Bella (Old English) thinks she's higher in the pecking order then my husband. My husband really is one of those "cat" people. That being said his a real softy..... So we're all signed up and paid for..... Bella is 16 months old..... She had her first full blown heat in September. Now she's starting to act like she's in a heat again.... Is that possible? If she is I really can't take her to classes with other dogs.... She's a real bully to other females when she was in her heat last time. Or should I just slap her diaper on her and go?

If she is in heat I wouldn't risk class. With Kahlua it was really obvious when she was (her vagina got really really big and swollen).

Hi Nik,
thank you for sharing your experience with me.
Bella's last heat she was very swollen. If she is going into a heat she's in the very beginning of it. It's her behaviour that has me wondering. And I can't remember if this breed goes into a heat 2x's a year or not..... I guess I could google that.
I think I will try it tomorrow and see.... There's only another 3 dogs in this class and Bella out weighs them all by 100 lbs ..... So I really don't think they will hurt her. And really I signed "us" up my husband and I because he really needs training .... Not so much the dog lol

Usually the class will have a policy about it. I'm able to take my intact Doberman to nosework and barn hunt when she is in heat if she wears panties, but not to her rally class. If your instructor doesn't have any issues, I would take her but pick a spot close to the door so you can leave easily if your dog doesn't end up settling or its too disruptive for the other dogs.

Just wanted to give an up date on our Baby Bella.
We have been in 4 classes now. Both of us are enjoying the classes and homework. It was kinda funny when at the end of our 3rd class the trainer said "next week we'll train the dogs to sit pretty". Then she looks at Bella and I and said " oh you're not going to wait Bella jumping up on her hind legs"....lol No kidding she would be taller then me never mind all her weight being on her back legs and hips.

Females can come in heat as often as every 4 months or only once a year, each female is different and they can keep you guessing. We have intact animals and if I stopped doing something whenever anyone came in heat we would never leave the house. We however ensure that they are on a leash, under-control at all times and wearing their "panties" if out to make life easier for everyone. Some classes will have different rules as mentioned above, but you have to show in conformation with intact animals or you forfeit your entry so dogs get used to it and you get use to managing how to ensure your dog and others are safe when hormones are raging.

What most people call sit pretty (I call it beg) is something I refuse to teach Kryten. He very rarely sits square and when he does his butt doesn't touch the ground. Combine that with the fact that he is chest heavy and having him sit pretty just seems like a bad idea. People do get a kick out of seeing Jiggers beg though. A lot of people think of it as a small dog trick.
