I have a 10.5 month old Cane Corso and as of yesterday he has been whining like he is in pain. He has let out this whine about 8 times since yesterday. He is not bloated, he is pooping, peeing, eating (although hunger since yesterday has been extremely high) and drinking.

I have squeezed all his paws, elbows, hips, stomach and nothing I do makes him flinch or make a sound. I have moved his joints all around and no issues. This obviously is not the same as putting weight on something. He is not limping.

The weather has been well below 0 F as of late but I cannot find any cuts on his pads or paws.

He first whined in the back seat of the car yesterday laying down not moving. He did it again at home standing but not moving. And a few times he has done it stepping off of the couch and seemed almost hesitant like something does hurt. I just can't figure out what.

Has anyone experienced this before? Could it be growing pains and a joint is hurting him?

Called the vet and they said just keep him on a leash at all times and do not let him run at all for a week and see how he is.

I'm going to guess some type of nerve pain. Maybe in the spine or shoulders or neck. Check for any hot spots on the spine. Go to the vet and get some steriods and gabapentin.

Sometimes they don't react when you do the manipulating. Kryten became lame at 15 months old. It was obvious that something was wrong as he had a significant limp but when I tried to figure out where it hurt him he gave no reaction at all to any pressure or manipulation anywhere from his shoulder to his toes. He had an obvious reaction when the vet manipulated his leg however. His surgeon said that she sees that sort of behavior a lot in bonded dogs. They just trust that their human is trying to help and let you do whatever you want. That's not to say that if it hurts too bad they won't react just that they are less protective of the injured area.

Thank your for your insight. Yesterday the vet did not seemed concerened when we called but again......he was acting slightly off all night. Nothing that noticable until he whined loudly while lying on the couch. Got off the couch to go to the door to go outside and he seemed almost drunk in a way. Then instead of just going to the bathroom he laid on the deck in the snow. He has NEVER acted in this manner before. I am calling the vet back this morning to see if they can look at him.

He is on a RAW diet so my one concern is......maybe it is some kind of blockage. But he has had normal good bowel movements and no bloating in his stomach. Only thing is he has seemed EXTREMELY hungry since this started on Sunday. Very unlike his usual self in that manner.

He has been picking up this paw since Saturday though when outside. He was not moving here he was holding up his paw. I wonder if it is related? But then again why would he act like he is drunk almost if it is a joint issue?

Yes his disorientation that has happened 2x so far does but it is the whining that is throwing me off before his disorientation. My previous dog had seizures his entire life from 9 months old until he passed away at 9 years. There are different forms of seizures but he does not seem to be having any of them.....including that blank stare into space they can get.
The vet did notice he is favoring his left leg. She could not re-create any pain anywhere. She is doing bloodwork on him as well which I will get tomorrow. The vet said he could have injured his leg and we may have not even noticed and it will get better on its own. For now it is rest and do not let him run around.

Can you have an x-ray done of the leg?

Thank you.

And I think it was 2 things. I think he was sick (like a fever) causing disorientation. And I think he hurt his foot. Which is still slightly bothering him but not to the extent it was. Because they happened at same time I was thinking they were related but I am thinking they were not.
