What's ACA?
Wow these "registries" are popping up out of the woodwork......
Not every purebred male dog needs to be bred. My Doberman is AKC, nearly his whole pedigree is made up of AKC champions, his parents, his grand parents, 3 of his litter mates... he comes from one of the best show breeders and he was show potential... He's a gorgeous dog and for the 1st 2 years of his life I got sick of every person I met with aDobe bitch asking to breed with him! But at 2 years old I had him neutered. I felt and still feel that breeding should be left to those who have the time, the money, the experience, etc to truly do it right!
If you're going to breed a dog they should have a lot to contribute to their breed, not just "he's a great dog, I think he's the best looking DDB I've ever seen, he's smart, etc" It needs to be backed up by outside sources, a conformation title to prove that he IS a great looking dog by the standard, temperament tests, health tests, and ideally even a working title of some sort... if all of those things confirm, yes this dog is AWESOME, the breed NEEDS his genes! Then hell yeah, stud him out to approved bitches.
These registries are owned by, funded by, etc, mega puppy mills. It's quite a racket. However, AKC titles should not determine whether a dog should be bred. There are so many worthless AKC dogs out there with titles. Some of your top hunting dog breeders have AKC registries and others don't. But these breeders with AKC registries aren't showing them in the AKC ring; they'd lose. They're titles come from competitions where their dogs show their hunting skills. And there's plenty of top hunting dog breeders that have been doing it for generations and they don't have registries. And hunters spend thousands for these dogs because they know what they're getting. And don't get me started on those unhealthy AKC Neos with all their titles. I know of two Neo breeders that breed functional Neos and I'm pretty sure they don't have any registries (i posted the link to their webpage on one of my previous posts) but they show proper temperament and structure and they're living longer than 5 yrs. Unlike our titled AKC breeders. Does that mean he shouldn't breed Neapolitans because he doesn't have a proper registry?
