Last night I heard some quiet noises coming from the living room. It sounded like someone was quietly getting into something. Maybe. Nothing loud. Nothing dramatic or worrisome. I got up just to check. Roy has an XL airline crate with the door off that he likes to sleep in. He also really likes to wear his collar. I peeked in and he was sitting up leaning heavily toward one side of the crate and kind of shaking. I thought he had a tummy ache, which is pretty common for him. He gets acid reflux at night. I reached in and the bone shaped tag on his collar had slipped between the top slats on the side and then gotten turned around so he couldn't get out. He was choking. Quietly, almost silently, choking. If I had already been asleep I would never have heard him. His collar is a quick release, so I released him and he was fine. I know a lot of people don't have their dogs in collars in the house, but my guys like them and they're always supervised when they have them on so they'll continue to wear them. I'll be buying breakaway collars for house wear.
