Notre Dame on Fire

Not dog related but I am so devastated listening to the Notre Dame fire. They say they won't be able to save any of it. Kahlua and Diesel are picking up on my distress and they are both just sitting near me quietly. I just can't even believe this. It's such a loss to the world. I would like to blame the pregnancy hormones for my tears but I am certain I would feel this way normally as well. :-(

Ditto that, the fire was like a knife to my heart. I watched in horror...everything is passing away. History was ravaged today. Rebuilding will only be a shadow of the former greatness...an echo.

My everlasting regret, I chose Ireland over Paris.... I never saw her in her glory. Wishes are dust now.

Not all is lost Nik...the walls stand...the towers stand...the North Rose window was saved. If time heals all wounds, then Parisian ingenuity will overcome this insult. Something will represent 900 years and more of history.

I am so glad they were able to save as much as they were and that donations are already coming in to help rebuild. One day I will be back and able to see what has been conserved and what has been rebuilt. I'm hoping they also managed to save a good deal of the gargoyles but I haven't seen much mention of that. I suppose I am the only one obsessed with those gargoyle statues.

I don't know about the gargoyles but it was said that a lot of the statues had been taken down last week for restoration, they might have been included in that.

What would Victor Hugo's story of the Hunchback of Notre Dame have been without the gargoyles?

Last I heard is it started in the attic as a result of the renovations they had been doing on Notre Dame. It was unfortunately a really windy day and with the wood as old a it was it just went up fast.

I heard it was an electrical short. The article didn't state if the short was in material that was part of the renovation or not but did state that it wasn't directly caused by renovation work as the workers had been gone for about an hour before the first alarm went off.
