I just was thinking along the lines of DD. I've seen ALOT of pitts"All Real Ones" and few were hard. But yea an aggressive dog is just that. Dont matter what it is there is deff things in common far as owner responcibility. But the HUGE diff is we aint talking dogs here. The mail man, girl scouts, ups, fedex, random drunk guy, they wonder up to the door. I'd bet my lunch you aint had to many random dogs walk up and knock.
I'm all for folks owning Filas long as they know what their getting into. Like not allowing your Fila within strike distance during the big game. Because thats a very very real assesment. That arm moves to fast and it's game on. But for the right owner, all thats a non issue. I just dont let folks in my house. When they are, she dont get crated she gets leashed. For every 3 reasons one could tell me not to own one I can give you 3 ways a responcible Fila owner would handle or completly avoid the situation. But again, you need to know what your really getting into and be willing to deal with all those pain in the rears. I got 20 kids that live around me, fools, drunks, and the like and it really aint hard to keep the two apart.
And regardless of hard or soft temp, you should aproch a Fila puppy as if it's going to be the hardest Fila the world has seen. Because if you dont, your at fault when something goes wrong
Chuck this is exactly what I mean. It seems like every day a new guardian breed is heard people flock to the new breed for "
insert reason here" When questioned as to do some research people insist that just because they've owned/dealed "
insert commonly known working breed(s) here" that it automatically qualifies them as a suitable owner for "
insert rare/new breed." In very rare instances have people handled "true/hard" working dogs, not saying that those that have not can't handle the new breeds however I feel they should be absolutely 100% sure they know what they are getting into.
Its like what has been said many people are passing off dogs that look Fila, but not the temperament. Like anything some dogs are "harder" than others, but people should realize that this isn't going to be a dog that will only bark in hopes of scaring a "bad guy" these dogs want to tear the $hit of out anyone they see as a threat. Your family, friend, neighbor, children, etc......Same with CAO, CAS, BK, Bull Terr, etc, There are good and bad examples of each breed but for every one person that can handle a dog with a hard temp, they are trumped by many more that can't.
Unfortunately some people see these dogs as nothing but an exotic status symbol , its happening in the BK community. These people think their dog is a "beast" that could take on this or that. When more often than not their dog is crap, so they start breeding crap and then more people breed crap. Thus the vicious cycle continues. Then when someone does get a dog with a decent amount of temp the dog is automatically deemed as not breed type. Its frustrating and sad, IMO I think this is how we loose breeds.
People are going to do what they do its their life and choice to do so. However if anyone cares to read whether you agree with me or not ( which is fine we all have opinions) I am just giving you my 2 cents.
OP sorry to hijack the thread. Remember do your homework and I hope you find what you are looking for.
