SOOO we are officially in what I think is day 2 of D's first heat. I haven't seen too much of any behavioral changes yet, she just wanders around the house sighing. No whining or anything. She's leaving spots all over the house which is not really a big deal bc of the hard surfaces but I think her "panties" are a little too big. Is there a different of type I can buy for her, maybe some that are disposable or are these denim ones the best way to go & just buy some cheap liners? This is the first heat I've ever had to deal with in my years of owning dogs & I feel like my reading & research isn't enough. And yes I am semi grossed out by the blood every where but I know it's just part of it.

I hate to say it but I think she likes wearing the panties....

Which panties did you get? I know they sell them at petco/petsmart but I've never looked close. I recall someone suggesting boys tightywhitys though...

They are old, from my first EM that I used when Jessie first started having incontinence problems prior to putting her on meds. I believe they were bought from petsmart, gosh probably at least 8 years ago. They have Velcro on the sides & a tail hole. You can put liners in them but when she wanders around the house the liner just gets all bunched up & I think it bothers her so I took it out. I think we can maybe get away with just washing the panties but I don't want her laying around the house with nothing on, dripping everywhere so I was trying to figure out another option for in between washes. Am I mistaken that a heat cycle can last 10-21 days?

Not that I've noticed yet! I am keeping a close eye out though...there is a female chocolate lab that wanders around occasionally that's extremely aggressive but usually when I see her out I call AC ASAP. The only intact males that I know of are across the street & it's a schnauzer & some kind of Italian greyhound mix. I don't let the dogs out in the front yard when they are out anyway. The schnauzer drives me insane.

Ohhh you hush your mouth!! I honestly don't...hell I'm not even gonna say it. We'll just stay out of the front yard for the next month or so.

SF, those actually look like they may fit her a little better. The ones she has now the velcro is a little worn so when she gets in & out of her bed it sticks & she wiggles her little butt right out of them.

MM, I am somewhat laughing here too only bc with the panties on she won't sit down. Lol! She thinks long & hard about it & when I'm telling her to sit she just looks at me like "um, I'm fine standing, thanks though". You're lucky with Moo that she has natural panties. Can't even imagine how she would look wearing any highly fashionable denim ones! ;)

My other problem is trying to keep her off the furniture. She's always been allowed on the couch & chairs ever since she came home & now I feel like I'm being mean by making her get down. I don't want her "juices" on my furniture though. Puke!

Ooooo.....that would be interesting.....

Well, he'd need a step stool! I don't even want to imagine what those puppies would look like. Probably somewhere along the lines of a pug type head on a IG body, long dainty legs....ugh what a disaster. Thankfully I'm not stupid & won't allow them to get close.

Remember the Chihuahua and mastiff puppies.....

And I thought the yorkie/husky mixes on CL I saw one time was interesting to say the least. I feel like I've been reading about dog periods all morning! I'm actually wondering about how long this has been going on. The blood was just noticed yesterday, it's not bright red, it's more pale/watery looking & this is going to sound gross but she's always kind of had a bigger wooha, now it is indeed swollen & so are her nips.

Geez I sound like a weirdo. Lol
