I personally don't like free feeding especially with giant breeds. I like being able to monitor their food intake and know exactly how much they are eating. Also many mastiffs will eat and eat and eat and eat if given the option which is not good for their bones and joints plus the higher risk of bloat.

My dogs are on a schedule. This lets me know if something isn't right because I can easily track how much they eat.

Schedule, any day! I need to know how much my dumdum eats. Of course, with raw, you can't really leave food out all day :)

In the past we would let our dogs graze - but never put out an all-you-can-eat buffet. We've only had one dog that would have self-regulated doing that, the rest would have eaten a 40# bag in 24 hours or less...

Free feeding can increase your chances of bloat, it is something I don't do with my boys. My boys are on a set feed schedule, they get 3 cups in the morning, two cups at lunch and three cups of TOW in the evening. We try to keep their meals evenly distributed. I've owned EM's for 20 years and have yet to have a bloat or gastric tortion issue and have been very lucky!

I'm a 1st time EM owner. I have an 8wk old boy. I feed him 1cup w/2% milk 3 times a day. I currently using Purina puppy but am transitioning to 4 health puppy. How long should I feed a puppy food?

Why are you feeding your puppy milk? Dogs don't need milk outside of their mother's breast milk. If you do a search in the box on the top of the forum you'll find tons of threads about feeding mastiff pups.
