Greetings fellow dog lovers I have a 6month old 87lb. cane corso named Norie tested pos. for ringworm and he has cherry eye in one eye. Surgery on eye Oct.24th now the ringworm the vet won't have the oral meds till Mon. So for now it's antibiotics and topical called micazole. Any one use apple cider vinegar and coconut oil topically and selsum blue shampoo? Any home remedies I can use? I feel so bad for him he's taking on the CUJO look with the cherry eye and the fungus on his snout. Any advice would be welcomed. Thank you

Hi musicdeb see that's why I'm having trouble getting my head around this. lived on this farm for 13yrs. have had dogs all the time. German shepherd(may she R.I.P) and a pitbull/lab mix and have NEVER seen this before. Norie came to us in July. We have about 15 black walnut trees on the property and they are anti-parasitic. I just made black walnut tincture for our family so I believe I'm warding the ringworm away from us. Wondering if it would work on Norie. Guess I'll have to ask my herbalist. But still baffeled how this came about he has not left the farm except to go the vet. We have a really old barn with old hay in it that we have not cleaned out. Maybe he's in there rooting around and that's where it came from. I don't know, heavy sigh... Well away I go to wash bedding again in bleach and clean the hardwood floors. Maybe he should be on something to build up his immune system? I mean we kept the house clean. what to do what to do freaked by this thanks

Ringworm is a fungal infection. Dog Ringworm: Symptoms and Treatments

I would use gloves to touch the pup so you do not get the ringworm. Keep other animals away from the pup. At the shelter, we had a pup with ringworm and he had to remain in the cage and no one was allowed to touch the pup except shelter personnel. They used gloves and special aprons on top of their clothes. They would spray their shoes and clothes with lysol spray after leaving the cage. Not sure if it helped. It took 2-3 months to cure the pup. I felt so bad for him because he could not leave the cage. :(

Keep us posted on the poor pup...

My kids used to show lambs in 4H and ringworm was a constant. :( When you do sweep out the barn & dispose of the old hay, etc. I would take at least a 50/50 bleach water mix and saturate that barn floor. We would also use the diluted bleach mix and spray the ringworm on the lambs too. I noticed on the home remedy link musicdeb sent you, it suggests full strength for bleach on the animal but that seems a little harsh to me. I would dilute it if you go with bleach on your pup's spots. Good luck!

My Cane Corso had ringworm and the best cure is TEA TREE OIL.
Buy the pure non diluted kind, soak a cotton ball and apply to areas 2x/day.

Tea Tree Oil is one of the strongest antibacterial, antiviral, antifungals in existence!

If your barn contained cows at one point it might be from there. My son works on a dairy far and it is very common for cows to get them, unfortunetly my son also seem to get them very often. So he might be getting it from the barn.

Please do not use undiluted essential oils topically unless under the advisement of a qualified aromatherapist or medical practitioner trained in aromatherapy. Even seemingly benign EO's like lavender can cause sensitization. Diluting in a carrier oil is always a good idea and you will still get the healing qualities of the oil. Also, Tea Tree oil should never be applied where it can be licked and ingested. Or so I was taught when learning to make natural body products.
