  • Welcome back!

We decided to spruce things up and fix some things under the hood. If you notice any issues, feel free to contact us as we're sure there are a few things here or there that we might have missed in our upgrade.

I thought bull mastiffs were generally quiet lazy dogs....

Did I get adopt the only bull mastiff ever that loves to bark and play?

I adopted him at age 7 so it's hard to say what his situation was with his previous owners but they noted on his paperwork that when he had to use the bathroom he barked at the door. Did they train a bad behavior into a normally quiet breed of dog?

It's the hardest thing we're working on with training right now.

He's also quite into running around and playing. I was shocked especially for his age. He's also smaller at 110lbs- I know I've read about someone else on here who had a female smaller BM that was extra energetic.

Maybe I have a fat boxer with bleached hair ? *eyebrow raise* haha

7 years old and still playing and running? That is AWESOME! Each dog is different and there are many Bull Mastiffs with lots as energy as well as those who are super couch potatoes. It may have been that in his previous home, he lived with an active family who exercised him a lot. By the way, love that face. LOL

Sorry for the late response, first of all....
Every once in a while there's a hyper BM. How long does this play last? Usually they won't race around for very long. Our girl Ruby (5 yrs) will get Bella (11 yrs) to run a little bit, but it only lasts about 10 minutes. Cobi (8 months) can get Ruby or Bella to play for a little while, & Ally (13 years) will get up & plod along for about a minute. Sunny (10 years) refuses to be so silly. He'll wander along behind the masses, but he's just there to observe. :)
I would love every minute that your boy is ready to play. BTW Ruby will bark to go out, too. It's just a personal preference for them, as the rest just wait until we open the door. And thank you for taking in an older bully. There are so many that need homes.

Our B.M barks a lot even at the moon an will climb up on top of our wood shed to bark if he can find a way .its a game that we play an we are away have to figure out how he climbed up there. In the woods he will go for at lease a hour before he will stop our E.M cannot keep up with him she is only 2.1/2 but she gives up an just stays my my side.

At 7 it's probably a blessing to have an active dog.
Many dogs cue their energy to match their owners so the previous owner may have been very energetic.

My fur lady is 4 I think.. we gave her a new home after our neighbours asked if we would give her a new home after their family circumstances had changed... I've seen such a change in her since we got her a few days ago... her old owners never took her out and only let her in the back garden... and she used to sleep in medium sized room like a larder cupboard and smaller than a box bedroom with no windows... she's well behaved and toilet trained well... since we got her a few days ago we have taken her out for long walks and run about on the river with the kids and on the field she loves running wild and jumping up to branches and swinging from them with her mouth lol... she's really playful and if u don't start the play time she's does it for u she loves to sit near me but prefers to be walked by my partner..dont ask lol ... she sulks if he tells her off (doesn't shout).. and then comes and strolls over to me for a cuddle lol... she doesn't run wild in the house but will sit with the kids and play with them x

personally I never found them to be a lazy breed ...... I've had some were as athletic as any breed of dog I've seen , I've owned several weimaraners that couldn't hang with one of my bullmastiff's ......... they are quiet dogs .... my opinion is , if they're lazy or noisy , they were taught to be , or have a health problem .......
