We took the dogs to the dog beach up in SF recently. It was our first beach trip since losing Cerberus. He adored the beach. It was his favorite place and in a way I think we had been avoiding returning since he crossed the rainbow bridge.
On our prior trips Diesel had also enjoyed the beach. He loved running, playing with other dogs and digging. But, he was terrified of the ocean. This time he was no longer afraid of the ocean and he ran in and out of the waves. He showed less interest in the other dogs than previously and would continuously check in with us. We played fetch and let him run to his heart's content just calling him every so often to make sure he was paying attention. He was so ridiculously happy. It used to be Cerberus who went crazy for the beach but now Diesel seems to have inherited that passion.
Kahlua also enjoyed herself but did so with some amount of reserve. She was scared of the ocean and refused to go in. The couple of times she got her feet wet when waves unexpectedly came in she panicked and ran from them as quickly as possible. She introduced herself to the tiny dogs and mostly ignored all the other dogs. She had fun playing fetch, laying in the sand and running.
Overall it was a wonderful perfect day and I am looking forward to many more beach trips with our pups.
I did get many photos and although they are back lit I am still partial to those of Diesel running through the waves.
