Hard To Believe...

It is hard to believe... and with the excesses of fake news running around, might be some 'spin' involved (I hope!)? In any case... the video of that many dirty dogs crowded together is a sad situation, but at least someone did step up to get them minimal care.

Hi Tina,

Wouldn't it be nice, if each of us could snap up one of these furry kids?
Although I'm not sure if it would fit in my little tub o_O.

They should clean them up, and open it up to world wide adoption. I'm quite sure, that there are many mastiff lovers out there who would love to bring one home.

I suppose that would depend.

If they were properly looked after by the breeders (who wanted to make big bucks) prior to being dumped, then they would have had a good begining.

After being dumped, it would have gone down to natural selection and survival of the fittest . Any who were weak, sick, too young, or too old, would have died very quickly without food and care. Any outbreaks of distemper, parvo, infectious canine hepatitis, or para influenza, would have killed off many. Any dogs displaying rabies, would have been distroyed. Therefore those who have survived this far, would be the very strongest individuals in a hardy and strong breed.

That said, with lack of proper food (other than noodles) they would all be malnurished, with the probability of ticks (Lyme disease(?)) and possibility of mange. Not sure if they have heartworm over there(?)

And so, to take a wild guess at an answer to your question.....probably no worse than any other rescued dog, and possibly better, due to the very fact that they have managed to somehow survive against all odds.

This also assumes that these dogs are from good breeders, which I rather doubt. You might be getting terribly inbred dogs with poor temperaments. Since a "good" breeder wouldn't abandon their dogs, I'd be very suspicious about them being properly bred by people wanting to better the breed. Just my opinion.

Now that's difficult to say.

These dogs were being sold for tens of thousands of dollars (some going for as much as a million ). That would make me think, that these breeders would take care of these dogs, (not so much for the bettering of the breed) but for simple greed. A dog who was better taken care of, would be much more likely to bring in the big money.

That doesn't mean that they knew how to choose the healthiest or most stable temperaments to breed. Just because dog looks good doesn't mean that it's healthy or correct in temperament. TMs are a breed that you absolutely want to make sure you have the proper temperament. I would honestly be very hesitant to place one of these dogs with anyone other than an experienced TM owner. And I'm very pro rescue.

Yeah, after such a bad life and living semi wild in a pack aggression can really be an issue. I'm intimidated by Tibetans anyway (I admire them though!) so honeslt I'd be afraid to rescue one. I know it's wrong, but I'm afraid of them. :( And I have three mastiffs - I've always had big dogs.
