Over the past 3 weeks, my handsome 10 year old boy deveolped a yellow discharge with a little blood in one nostril. A trip to the vet resulted with a great heart and no fever. Antibiotics were prescribed. 10 days later discharge remains with sneezing fits but no blood. Call to vet, a different antibiotic.

After 3 days, discharge stops and what looked like swelling appeared on his nose, pushing his eye closed. Call vet, stopped antibiotics for a few days thinking allergic reaction. No change. Started thinking (actually hoping) absess tooth.

Trip to new vet today, a more advanced diagnostic clinic, bad news teeth are perfect. 99% positive of a tumor, its hard unlike swelling, no air moving through his one nostril.

Going to try a steroid and resume antibiotic until the 2 week follow up visit. Then make our plans.

Very sad day for me. Not going to do well with this.

I am thinking of you both, poor fellow, poor you. I noticed Hector mentioned the Tumeric paste. I think they used to call it Golden Paste or something like that. I remember that there was much talk about its usefulness with tumors. Please try it before setting on any other more drastic course. Let us know as soon as you know. I'm hoping that it isn't malignant.

Thank you everyone. Took 2 weeks off work and have him on a nice vacation right now. Left Pennsylvania on Friday and are bound for Florida. He loves to travel. Hope to get some good together time. He is doing well. Picking up the ingredients for the tumeric paste tomorrow and will start immediately.

The internet can be wonderful and scary. Did some research and did not like what I found. We will make the best of whatever may come.

Remember that the internet is not necessarily the best place to seek advice as so many sites are out of date. I've learned my lesson there!

Hi,

Did they do an x-ray and in depth look up his nose to make sure that there is nothing stuck up there?

Kindest regards and best wishes .

Hi Elana,

Thats planned on the next visit. Sedation, x rays and a scope. They wanted a two week follow up to see what the meds do. Then a referral to a specialist. I believe they mentioned Cornell. The look on their faces from it being hard instead of squishy told me that it wasnt swelling, but a tumor instead.

All the discharge has stopped, which i hope is a good sign. Tumeric paste treatment is underway.

I keep praying he will sneeze and a little plastic army man will come flying out.

In addition to the turmeric users group on Facebook, there's also a canine cancer support group... IF that is what this turns out to be... Stay positive!!
I'm still hoping the scope finds a matchbox car or lego stuck up there! :)
