Puppy Pimples...

Hi All,

Well, my poor little boy woke up with puppy pimples on his chin and lips
He's so embarrassed, that he doesn't even want his picture taken :(.

Then I noticed a few on his tummy as well, and some red spots on the inside of his ear.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

I mean he's at that age, when looks are everything:rolleyes:.

Do you think it could be allergies? The spots on his tummy make me think it might be an allergic reaction to something.

Thanks folks,

Not sure what it is, so made an appointment.

It almost looks like 2 or even 3 different things.
Ear, is presenting as red marks against normal pink background.
Tummy, is presenting as a few little pink pimples.
Chin and lips, presenting as small blood blisters, that join and make raised scab like marks.

I've been cleaning with hydrogen peroxide, which seems to help somewhat, but I don't like it.

I've considered the possibility of allergies, but no idea to what at this point. Going to have to start a process of elimination to see if these issues show a sign of clearing up.

A Staph infection of some sort is a possibility, just not sure where on earth he could have picked it up. Other two pups not showing any signs at this time.

Will try to snap some pictures today, and post them on here.

We'll see what the Vet thinks.

Thanks again guys.

I used a mixture of apple cider vinegar and water to wipe Kryten's chin whenever he hadid a breakout. His used to crack and bleed.

Pyoderma? It sounds like more than just acne if it's on his belly and ears. For acne, which Ella had very severely, I cleaned her stainless bowls after every meal. Changed her water frequently and added some cider vinegar to it (not all dogs will drink it though), and made sure to keep her face as dry as possible. I also washed her face with cider vinegar and water periodically throughout the day and after meals. I tried Mal-a-Ket wipes and they seemed to help too, but they're pretty nasty smelling.

Ella also gets nasty red spots in her ears and on her belly. I can't really pinpoint what causes it, but it seems to be worse certain times of the year so I suspect allergies. It clears up in the same amount of time if I use bag balm, nu-stock (nasty sulfur stuff), or even the cheap sulfodene ointment from the feed store. I'm not saying you don't need antibiotics, I just know that I prefer not to give them if I can clear it up some other way.

Hello all, and thanks for the response.

We went to the Vet yesterday afternoon, and Charlie was so excited you would have thought he'd won the loto. He wanted to hug everybody, lol, and just about pulled my arms out of their sockets , the little bum.

So, it is a bacterial infection.
Probably started on his chin, in an open puppy pimple, then transfered to his ear when he scratched his chin , then his ear. The tummy pimples have cleared up on their own.

We are now on 10 days of Clavaseptin 500mg 1 tab twice a day, and 10 days of Canaural suspension, 7 drops in his right ear twice a day.

Charlie, loves the chewable Antibiotics, but hates the drops in the ear .

I have put off his first Rabies and 3rd set of puppy shots, until all this clears up.
My poor little boy....,

The extra problem I have now, is that little Katy, is quite determined to lick his chin. It is driving me crazy. She thinks she's his Mother, and feels obligated to clean him top to bottom (which is a lot of licking for a little dog). She knows I don't approve, so she sneaks behind my back, the little imp. I'm worried that she'll pick this up through all the licking, and end up with some sort of an infection herself, plus she might just be aggrivating the condition...

Yes, you really should get her to stop. My grand-puppy Bella has always had ear infections, and for some reason Hudson just loves to lick out her ears. He dives right in there and Bella moans and groans with approval, but all this licking causes a very moist atmosphere which just prolongs her infections. So, if there is any way to separate them or at least control the contact, I would. Not only is there a chance of transmission to Katy, but Charlie's immune system is under attack already, any added bacterial load that Katy might add might worsen his situation. You said you were trying to keep the area clean and dry...Nurse Katy is working against your best instincts. Poor girl she's trying to heal her friend.
