Chronic ear infection?

We have had CeCe, an English Mastiff rescue, for about 1 month. She seems to have chronic ear infections. Any advice? Meds from the vet that work? Over the counter plans that work well? She got to two 'opti packs' that seem to have drained (yellow river?) right out of ear overnight. CeCe seems whiny and lethargic. Any input is appreciated. If I can get the infection cleared up, the vet said to clean her ears every two weeks or if her ears get wet with some OTC wash. Sound about right?

My non Mastff had a reoccurring ear infection that lasted over 3 months. We tried a few different medications, different types of ear washes and a food change but it would return a day or 2 after the medication stopped. What finally worked was Zymox. I get it off Amazon. In the year and a half since I first tried it he has had 1 infection and it cleared up in a couple of days instead of weeks like before.

did the vet culture the ear ? or at least look at a sample ? if not , and if the problem is not solved by something like cleaning them with zymox , they should ...... some bacteria that cause ear infections are resistant to a lot of the common antibiotics used ........ baytril ear drops seem to get some of the more resistant ones ...

We use Zymox as well to prevent infections in these yeasty ears. When I first rescued him, Dozer had a gnarly ear infection that we treated with Otomax.

We had ONE chronically dirty ear for four years with Denna... she came home with it at 7 weeks old, and it persisted through changing foods to grain-free, then grain & chicken-free, then raw (still grain and chicken free)....

The vet wasn't worried about it, it was never "that" bad... one culture came back as "just dirt"...
We used Zymox to get it cleaned up but it would always come back in a few weeks.

About a year ago, we started also putting in Snooks Ear Drops after Zymox got things clean... and Voila!!! Ear has been CLEAN for almost a full year !!!!

If it's not a food allergy, it could be a seasonal environmental allergy... or... who knows.
The Snooks drops seem to be doing the trick for us... fingers crossed it stays that way. :)

PS - I liked the Zymox Gel with Hydro-cortisone to clean up a really dirty ear. No washing or rinsing necessary, just put a good squeeze in the ear and let the enzymes do their magic.
