Looking to Adopt a new family member

Hello everyone, I'm new here, but not new to Mastiffs. I lost my Mastiff back in February and am looking to add another to my family. My Kodiak was a beautiful 150 lb Fawn English. I have found one I think is beautiful, but it's about an 8 hour drive away and hoping maybe you guys could help me out. First of all what kind of Mastiff don you think he is. They said Neo, but he almost looks like a Dogue De Bordeaux mix. The foster says he is about 1 year old and only weighs 88 lbs. She did say he is under weight currently. Knowing that and seeing pictures, how big do you think he would get? I know it's all mainly opinion, but I'd love aditional input.

What a soulful expression on that pup! At just one year? He looks much wiser than a yearling... I hope his first year hasn't been that much of a 'blues-parade'. Sounds like he may be on his way to a much happier home life.

My chart for 88lbs at 1 year would put him around 120-130 as a full grown adult. That would put him on the low standard end for a Neo, and about right for a DDB.

The first pictures looks french-orange... but the second shows a little more neo-grey...
So hard to tell!

Welcome to the Forum.
Losing a pup is never easy... I'm glad you're ready to welcome another mastiff to the family!

Looks like a Neo/DDB mix to me. At any rate, welcome to the family. We'd love to see pics of your new pup and if you ever want to, you can tell us about your boy in Memorials, we'd love to hear about him.

I saw a post about that dog on Facebook. He's in MO? He looks like a mahogany neo on the smaller side. I hope you're able to adopt him!

Thanks everyone. You've basically reinforced many of the thoughts I had. He is located in MO and I'm in Milwaukee. So it would be a bit of a trek, but I'm definitely considering it as there are not a lot of Mastiffs available for adoption close to here.
As to my previous Mastiff, his name was Kodiak. I lost him to bloat at 5 1/2. Here are some pictures of my buddy.

Kodiak is beautiful. I am so sorry for your loss. I lost my senior citizen dog to bloat last year. It broke my heart.

Is he already available for adoption? Do you know about his history? If you have a good feeling about him, and both you and the foster mom think he'd be a good fit, I think you should go for it! It's not every day you see a mahogany neo up for adoption.

And sorry for your recent loss. Kodiak looks like he was a cool dude.

I see Neo for the most part when I look at him. He might be just a smaller version, which honestly isn't a bad thing as hopefully it means a long lifespan.

Yeah he's up for adoption already. I'm still waiting for them to get the application approved. It's difficult going through all this as sometimes these organizations don't get back to you for weeks or switch things up last minute. I asked them for more pictures and they never responded, but posted more pics on their FB page.

Any news on your application? Hopefully you will hear back from them soon if you haven't already. I hope it works out!

Sweet Pup... Tell then we approve! He's so lovable, and your heart has a Mastiff-sized hole in it that only another Mastiff can fill.

My wishes and blessings are with you. Keep us informed.

I just saw a post on Facebook saying this guy is still available. I'm surprised he hasn't been snatched up yet!

Hi everyone, that rescue basically just ghosted me. They haven't responded at all. So I decided against making the drive to meet him. I'm too nervous about if he'd be a good fit to make that kind of trip with them providing very little knowledge and feedback. I did however find a new family member elsewhere. Meet Rocha. He's an almost 3 year old, 140lb beautiful brindle boy. He's super friendly with everyone he meets and is doing great at his new home.

Sorry to hear the neo didn't work out. Some rescues are easier to work with than others. But congratulations on Rocha! He looks like a happy boy with that giant bone.
