So I wanted to know if it was safe to feed my 9 month old 95ish lb CC one raw egg a day. I called my vet’s office to ask and was transferred to someone who I HOPE was a vet tech. I told her I was feeding my CC 1 raw meal a day (2 more kibble meals), consisting of a chicken leg, some pork liver, and a raw egg. I know it’s a small meal but I’m not ready to commit to a full raw diet and I’m just testing out his reaction to this change. She immediately told me not to feed raw, which I kind of expected from a vet office due to risks of salmonella, bacteria, etc . However it was her explanation that kinda made my jaw drop. She confidently said that like humans, a dog’s gastrointestinal system was not set to digest raw meats. Whaaaa????? It took every bit of self control to not say, “I watch the Animal Planet quite a bit and I’ve never seen a pack of wild dogs or wolves chase down and tackle a bag of ProPlan.” I politely thanked her and got off the phone without having my question answered. So here I am...long story short, 1 raw egg a day ok? I read that raw egg white isna biotin inhibitor and should not be given to dogs.
