7 week puppy with diarrhea

Mac gets 1/2 cup of kibble plus a good spoon full of canned food (just enough to coat the kibble) for each feeding (3x daily). Sometimes he finishes it, other times he leaves a small amount
He should be eating 3 cups 3 times a day. Does Wellness recommend 1/2 cup 3 times a day?

I'll have to double check the bag but when I get home (unless my wife chimes in) but I'm pretty certain it said 1 1/2 cups per day.

Honestly I don't think he'd eat 1-2 cups in one sitting... Certainly not from what I've seen... Maybe he really doesn't like the wellness... Hmmm... He certainly does chase after or other dogs food.

Good news Mac's poops are starting to firm up. Was nearly an instant change. We will keep him on the rice and elk for a few days then switch out the elk for chicken to see if he has a chicken sensitivity. If all goes well then we'll start working the kibble back in. And see what happens. If he does have a chicken sensitivity we'll be looking for a new food.

Well Mac had reverted a little, not liquid diarrhea like before but we're back yo cow Patties. My wife is going to talk to his vet when she gets home, probably going to submit a stool sample

Might be a good idea to have him checked out where he is so young. Keep us posted on Mac. Poor little guy...

Got back from the vet. They don't feel anything is wrong with Mac. And it's mostly normal puppy related stuff plus the stresses of coming home to us, diet change, etc...

However they did prescribe some probiotics and an antibiotic called metronidazole to kill the bad stuff and restore a normal flora balance in Mac's tummy.

We did return the Wellness large breed puppy dog food for natural balance sweet potato and fish formula. I decided on this after talking with a gal I work with about her Great Danes and their food issues, she's had really good luck with this formula. After reading many mastiffs have chicken sensitivities I really didn't want to risk it.

We started to mix in the kibble with the rice/elk and will slowly switch him over to straight kibble.

Sadie just had a round of Metronidazol, and it is a wonder drug for GI issues. Make sure you give him the probiotics for at least a month after the meds are finished. Like the vet said, it does get rid of ALL bacteria, good and bad. I am glad to hear the stool sample is clear. In a few days he should be back to normal.
