Mastiff puppies should eat Large Breed adult food or All Stage food because puppy food has too much calcium which causes fast growth. Slow and steady growth for a healthy mastiff. Protein in the food is not an issue unless the pup has kidney issues.

Dog Food FAQs: Protein

Check out Acana Regionals, Wellness Core, Castor & Pollux Grain Free, Earthborn Holistics, Fromm*s, Innova Natures Table, Victor*s Grain Free or Taste of the Wild grain free. Chewy.com is a great place to order dog food and they offer free shipping.

As musicdeb said. I've been feeding my Boy adult kibble from the age of four months. Acana regionals is what i have been using for the last four months with a 30% raw diet (just to expensive and time consuming to feed complete raw). I would stay away from any food that has a high potato ,sweet potato. Potato can have a horrible reaction with some dogs. the high carb from it will give chronic yeast problems in ears and skin.

Mastiffs seem to do great with fish based food usually don't cause allergy issues. Chicken and Beef based foods can be nasty on sensitive dogs .

Thanks Musicdeb. RockstarDDB do you mix or separate the raw from the kibble? Thanks too the both of you again for taking the time to respond..

It's not advisable to mix raw with dog food with grains because it will confuse the digestive system. If you feed grain free food, you can add some meat to the dog food or you can do 2 meals, one with dog food and one with raw. I add raw to Titan's food and he is fed twice a day.

In the morning, he eats 1/2 cup of dog food with scrambled eggs with crushed glucosamine and probiotic and 2 small pieces of meat. In the evening, he eats 1/2 cup of dog food and a pound of meat. Whatever dog food he doesn't eat at either meal, I add it to the next meal.

Both of mine have been on an adult food since they were brought home at 6 and 8 weeks. Ruger (English Mastiff) will be three years old in February and Magnum (Great Dane) is 16 months old. They eat Taste Of The Wild, Sierra Mountain.

I've been feeding my boy adult food since we've brought him home as well. Started feeding abt 40% raw when he was about 6mo, not mixed. He's now 8mo and Monday - Thursday he gets 3 cups of pure vita kibble twice a day and friday - Sunday he gets raw. With exceptions for the holidays! Then he'll get raw that day and the rest of the week.

I use a pre made and packed Raw patty called Stellas. it has the proper mixture of Bone, organ and meat . i use Acana regionals pacifica it is a grain free food with carbs coming from sources other then grain and patato. 2 1/2 cups kibble 1 patty twice a day. Speaking with your breeder is advised too. Some Dogues depending upon genetics will mature faster then others as well as being larger then others. I knew my boy would be large just by genetics and grow fast the first 6 months then mature at a slower rate. so i chose to use puppy food mixed with adult for about a month after bringing him home and moved to a all stages food with 30% of his diet being raw. food calculators are a good tool for establishing a base , but i keep a close eye on my boys weight gain and body condition. I weigh him every few weeks and track his growth. I will adjust food intake as needed.

I've been feeding my Bullmastiff pup adult food since I got him at 7 1/2 weeks, he's now 14 months. I rotate between Taste of the Wild Pacific Stream and Wild Prairie. They are grain free foods one flavor is fish based, the other is Bison/Lamb.

I rotate every two weeks, or the time that it takes me to go through a 30 lb bag for my Bullmastiff and GSD.

I also include a frozen pumpkin bone (pumpkin in ice cube tray shaped like dog bone) and a squirt of Salmon or Pollock oil with every meal.

I would likely feed raw if I could make it feasible financially, and didn't view it as a personal inconvenience.

I feed my DDB raw for the main meals and some home training and use dampened kibble for training treats away or for very quick sessions at home. I've used Canidae Pure Sea (fish based), Royal Canin Giant Puppy (when she was younger) and Royal Canin Endurance (what we currently use as she loves it).

Blackhawk fish & potato is supposed to be very good too if it is available where you are.

My girl has a very fussy digestive system and if I feed her something that doesn't work I know about it very quickly (and messily!). If that happens I feed her rice and boiled chicken for a day or two until things go back to normal. Just in case that helps!

Yeah saw that, just a right pain trying to find the right kibble, Wilson likes it and it appears to be in better agreement with him than Taste of the Wild was...we have stopped the raw food (which is a pity) after the 'strange' health issues he was having and he no longer gets soft stools
