Apollo is offended

We had a power outage earlier tonight. It was a short one, 5 minutes, maybe. Not a big deal. But apparently it offended Apollo's sense of what was right with the world. He is now bouncing off the windows in full voice every time he hears a sound he doesn't like, or thinks he hears a sound.....I took this video a few minutes ago, you can't see much, sorry, but its what I'm listening to several times an hour. Turn up the bass on your sound system.....

He's been extra guardy lately in general. Not sure if its a phase, or if this is his adult temporment showing through.

Saturday night he decided he'd had enough being barked at by the psychotic GSDs on the property kitty corner to us, slipped his martingale, and chased them into their doggie door. Apparently either the owners weren't home, or decided that they didn't want to know what chased their guard dogs home in a panic.....

Makes me glad the vet didn't argue about me being present for his sedation and wake up for his OFA xrays....

Ruth do you see flickers of like light, or shadows from light, or people outside?
Reason I am asking is bc your dog is very adamant about what's outside.
Might want to either let him out or take him outside so he can see

Several times its been a car driving by, at least once was the folks across the street getting home (he usually ignores them, he knows what their car sounds like). We've been out three times in the last two hours so he could check the yard....each time you can see him go "oh, never mind....." once we get out there.....

Ruth, I wouldn't worry about it, sounds like he is getting older and being more guardian. My female Presa is the same way. She hears something she is all about it until I show her all is good. I like her that way b/c I rather know if something is to be worrying about. Most guardian breeds know friend / fo so you really should be fine

I'm more amused than worried, though if he's going to insist on barking at the neighbors everytime they shut a car door we're going to have words. Not that I don't agree with his opinion of them, but they're in and out ALOT......

When you know they are coming and going teach him a word for its ok ..
When I praise my dogs I use "good girl" "good boy" but I have a German word for when all is ok and time to be quite again ..
Take him outside when you know they are going tell him your command, then after he listens to the word outside start it at the window .. He'll get it :)

Yah, we did it all before. I guess I need to go through it again, though we'll see. He finally decided the bogieman wasn't going to invade just cause the power went out and he's sleeping on the end table now.

Sorry Ruth I had to laugh watching this...it reminds me exactly of bubba girl (Moo). In my experience there is nothing much that can stop them if they decide that whatever is out there that we cant see or hear is a threat. I have tried and tried with Moo, but if she is upset at something then she will move mountains to let it know she is there and she is doing her job. You can barely get her to sit let alone anything else when she is on full guard, she takes her job very seriously. I dont mind it so much, its not often that she goes in to full guard mode, yeah she does her job daily but when she is seriously upset or something is needing telling then its only from time to time. She went nuts last week at something we couldnt see or hear, she was like Apollo at the back window through the shut curtains, I had to really pull her away...what did she do? She went in to our bedroom that faces the same way and let rip from there. But hey...thats what she is meant to do. If it was a daily occurance or she was a yappy thing then I would look to train it out of her further but she isnt, and I shouldnt think Apollo is either.

I have to laugh, Ruth!!! Go Apollo!! Guess he showed that nothing! LOL Ruger is super guardy as well and has a moment or two like this, where he is damned and determined to "get" something or tell it to "back off". I. too, walk him outside and then bring him back.......Crazy pups!

I'm laughing too & wishing I had his bark recorded for when people knock on my door! Lol! I think it's funny when other breeds of dogs display a similar guarding behavior like this. Granted, it is no where near the intensity of Apollo or Moo but when my little dog gets fixated on something she almost has the same sounds coming out of her mouth but of course they are WAYYYYY more high pitched. When she hears something her whole body gets stiff & she will charge it but will almost look like she is bouncing through the house or backyard. It's even hard to get me to break her of the barking, usually I have to walk up to her & touch her & say it's ok before she snaps out of it. But then again I don't know very many people who are afraid of a 5 lb dog. Lol

Mooshi's Mummy, thats exactly what he was doing. And yah, as long as the alert at everything isn't a daily occurance I don't care.

And yes, very crazy!

And :p @ Gunny and Mooshi's Mummy, Mine!

I have to play this at home with boys, I want to see their reaction. I still get chuckles when I play the one with Arty singing to his toy.

Wow that's a good solid bark. I wouldn't mess with that dog. Must make you feel pretty secure.
