Barrett at 12 Months

10 months flew by! This is my girl Barrett at 1 year old. She loves food, the beach, belly rubs, running around like crazy, tracking, agility (no jumps!) and food. Plus more food.

She's had issues with food, demodectic mange, UTI and firm belief that the vacuum cleaner is the tool of the devil. We've managed to get past everything but the vacuum cleaner thus far!

Has anyone else encountered (and conquered) issues with vacuum cleaners?

Thanks!

I have run into it a time or two with the various breeds that I have
owned. I simply put the offender on a down saw in another room or the same room I am vacuuming in an out of the way place and continue my house work. Both suggestion will allow her to practice the stay command. It will also teach her to stay out of your way when you use the vaccum.

Allow the pup to smell and be near the vacuum while it is off. Once the pup is comfortable around the vacuum while in the off position, then turn it on and allow the pup to come near it.

Titan hated the vacuum and it took a while to get him used to it. Now he allows me to vacuum him off. I use the upholstery attachment. As soon as he sees the attachment in my hand, he comes and stands in front of me so I can vacuum him. :)

Denna thinks it's a fun toy that must be eaten...

I calmly remind her to 'leave it' and 'go lay down' about once every 10 seconds as I vacuum.... she normally gets sent out of the room completely so I can finish vacuuming in peace.
I've been able to vacuum past dogs, but not Denna. We haven't really worked on it that hard, though.

I wonder if it's something in the hummmmm of the motor that drives them crazy?

But... then... Denna attacks rakes and brooms with the same excited energy. I think she just doesn't like house or yard work - and I can't fault her for that! HA!

Barrett will growl if I walk past holding the vacuum. So far I can get her to eat a handful of treats on the vacuum cleaner but we can't turn it on yet.

Actually, it started when her Daycare changed the type of vacuum they used so it possibly is something about the pitch of the engine that sets her off.

O boy have we lol. we have one of those i Robot roomba's. he would run for the back yard when he heard that thing start up. it would run twice a day . Eventually i got tired of it disturbing his lounging and just let roll right past him. the stand up he still has issues with it getting to close . they are still pretty much puppies and be skittish at one year i know mine is. you could try lead correction while running it and food reward for not barking or growling at it. My experience with issues is consitency they are stubborn and will full it may take a lot of time.
