Logan really enjoys climbing up in the back of hubby's truck and riding around. We take him w us to the grocery store. While I run in. Hubby hangs out w Logan in the parking lot. He loves to watch the customers coming and going. He never barks at anyone! He just enjoys watching them. This is when Logan is " Beauty"! We go to the huge local park. Dogs are allowed on leash. There are never many dogs there. He just watches people ride bikes, skateboard, play tennis etc.. And people like to look at him. He's definitely different. I've even seen a few snap pictures of him. I can see there mouths moving saying " look at that dog!", or " what is that?" Lol. He does great in public. And one huge benefit of him being so different, is people don't approach him. I love that!! They keep their distance. With our EM mix Buster. Everyone wanted to approach him. And he was very vocal in public!

Now the "Beast".... I noticed at a very young age, Logan patrolled his fence. He watched everything like a hawk. And became very vocal anytime anything got near his territory. He is very territorial w our yard! I have no problem w this. It's just so funny how different he is when he doesn't consider something his territory. He is still alert in public, and keeps an eye on the kids, but very laid back. But when it comes to his yard, he is anal!! Lol. What can I say ,I love my beast! He's awesome!!!

Great update, April. I guess that‘s exactly how you want it to be. Protective of the house and family, but social out in public. I‘m glad he‘s doing so well.

Love your Beauty and Beast, both! :)

I have noticed Denna (EM) also is better in public... but, we go to the same public places routinely, and I have to remind her that those spots are not "hers" to protect. But, she's not really that protective at home, either... so not nearly the same guardian instincts as your Beast.

My Diesel considers both the car and the house his territory. Drive thrus used to be a nightmare. He would bark and growl at the people in the window. With practice he is a lot better at the people in the window but as soon as someone tries to approach the car out of the norm he goes full on protection mode. He is also pretty protective of me. We can do our normal walks just him and me and he does very well. He doesn't threaten anyone or bark at anyone. But, occasionally when we are out in public if a man tries to approach me he will sometimes determine they are a threat. It isn't every man just some and only if they start approaching us purposefully. If someone just walks by in passing there isn't an issue. I trust his judgment when it comes to people. I have felt him tense up on the trail before as a man approaches and I just take one look at his posture and speed up so I can get far from the person approaching as quickly as possible. If Diesel says they are a threat I believe him.

Diesel is a cutie pie, but I bet that mini mastiff can be quite intimidating. And a lot of people like to lump all dogs into a few specific breeds, as if there are only a few to choose from. Lol! I'm surprised at the choosing of German Shepherd for Diesel and Kaluah though. I could see people mistaking them for Pits, but not German Shepherds. Too funny! They are both beautiful. :)
