Bella and Sage Growth thread

Glad I could help. I was a bit worried in the beginning, but I like the slow and steady approach. And if they only hit 140 then so be it. It's actually kind of nice to have them still be relatively little especially since Sage doesn't have a lot of understanding of where she is. She steps on my feet and shoes all the time and I couldn't imagine how bad that would be at 180lbs. Everyone will tell you that their genetics is hard wired and that takes a lot of stress out of it also. I do work to keep them lean for joint purposes but am actually pretty happy with just the steadiness of their growth both up and on. Your girl will get there and then you'll look at her one day and she'll be 8 months old (still a puppy) but look like a dog. I'm there and have to constantly remind myself when my 80lb dog does something retarded that she's still just a puppy....a very big puppy.

You get used to it.
Kryten thinks he is a 10 lbs lap dog and doesn't understand why the cats can lay in my lap but he can't, so he tries. 200 lbs of dog on your legs is certainly an experience most people can't relate to.

Weight update:

Sage at 38 weeks 86 lbs and Bella at 38 weeks 77 lbs.

They have certainly started to slow down in putting on weight, and Bella actually hasn't gained any for almost a month. The vet said their composition is fantastic and to keep doing what I'm doing. At this point he does think they will be on the smaller - smaller side of the breed with Sage hitting 120 - 140 total and Bella coming in around 100 -110. It makes me no difference as long as they are happy and healthy. I was looking forward to a bigger dog, especially to help mom up from chairs and the couch (stabalizer) but they have captured my heart and I couldn't imagine life without them.

Trust me a 100 to 140lb pooch can be a stabilizer. Once they get older and gain the muscle mass they will you will be surprised just how strong they will be. Over the years had big and small EMs trust me, there all very strong. People take there soft and gentle nature and are shock when they actually show there power.

My Roxy is 110 lbs and she could knock me on my ass I'm 220. She was excited after I was coming home and she does this jump spin thing. She totally took me out right at the knees.

I have used Jiggers (70lbs) as a stabilizer to get up after Kryten had knocked me over and caused me to sprain my ankle. So a 100lbs dog should be able to fulfill that role easily.

Thanks everyone. Once they are done growing I'm gonna work on getting them to let her use them to get up. She has diabetic neuropathy and can't always feel her feet below her.

Bella went into the vet on Weds to have her incision looked at so here is her info:

Bella at 40 weeks - 80 lbs. Sage goes in next week to have her liver enzymes checked so I'll update then.

The shirts were a much better alternative to the cone of shame. They literally walked around with their heads hung to the ground when they had those things on. It was just pitiful.

They look like sweeties. Do the shirts work to keep them from bothering the incision? I'll have to remember that.

They are too darn cute!! I'm excited to see how my Nani will look when she gets this age. And it is so... sweet to see how close they like to be next to each other. I love how cozy they look!!

Tlov - the shirts worked great. I just had to tie a knot in the back so it wasn't all floppy.

Sage went to the vet today and is down half a pound. So she's at 85.5 and 41 weeks tomorrow. We did start to walk again so I may up their food to 4 cups total a day and see how they handle it. If the poop gets soft then we go back to 3 1/2.
