Hello everyone, I previously posted something about deciding between a Boerboel, presa canario, and bullmastiff.
I have an intact 9 year old male golden retriever tolerant of puppies but skittish of older dogs.

I’m looking to get a male BB or presa canario.

Looking to get some information from owners of both breeds.

Do you have any same sex dogs in the house? How have they responded to one another?

How tolerant are these breeds when it comes to strange dogs when properly socialized?

How tolerant are these dogs of a same sex dog they are raised with? I don’t want any issues or fights breaking out in my house, I will not tolerate that.

I will be spraying the dog when it’s done fully growing at the age of 24 months. Thank you.

Finally any breeders you recommend ?

I am an owner willing to train, socialize, follow tips and pointers and always use a firm hand with the breed.

    current experience:
mother’s GSD mix and bully kutta
    Personal dog: GR

Hi! Not to be discouraging, but I don't recommend two dogs of the same sex in a household.

My feeling is that your GR who is a senior now and is skittish of older dogs, and will be 10+ years of age by the time your large male dog comes into maturity will start to get beaten up pretty badly. That would be quite unfortunate.

Socialization and training and a firm owner are good, but some physical realities are pretty harsh. I would, instead, get a female pup (or just just wait until your GR passes) but still be very careful how it treats your senior GR who is skittish around older dogs.

    Wish you the best!

I agree with what BattleDax said. When I worked in rescue, we would never place a female in a home with another female. Many rescues we worked with wouldn't place a male in a home with a male. Remember that our dogs don't come into their temperaments until they're older. Things can go along just fine until they hit 2-3 years and then everything changes. I would find a good breeder that can help you pick the puppy that has the best chance of working in your situation. They know their pups best.

Coming from someone with 3 male intact ccs this is going to sound wrong.
I would be really careful, youve got an older dog thats ok with pups, but these mastiffs grow quick, if your boy gets fed up he will snap then your pup will most probably go back, that can then pass onto your pup with other dogs.
My eldest cc will not tolerate any other male outside his pack, its hard work.
And as boxergirl said these dont come into age til 2 to 3 years old, it could be your pup wont tolerate yourold boy, we did everything, socialized ect, budcuss just didnt like other male dogs, and if your pup is like that your old boy wouldnt stand a chance. Then that means total seperation.
