Hello There!!

I am new to this forum page, and fell in love haha.

I'm 22 years old and I currently own two Filas, both male(neutered) and litter mates, named Max and Hunter.

I was wondering, if there is anyone out there that has a Canine Good Citizen or Advanced Canine Good Citizen certificate for any Fila/Fila X ?

I have had Max since he was 4 1/2 months old and I have been working towards his CGC/ACGC since he was a pup (Hunter is the guard dog). I have not found but maybe 1 or 2 Fila/Fila X That have their CGC certificate.

I do know that the breed isn't supposed to be even close enough in good temperment to pass the test, but as I am showing the world, it all depends how they are raised (one of my dogs is CGC the other fila is protection-both brothers, both neutered, same litter).

Does anyone else out there own a Fila/Fila X with CGC/ACGC?:)

Also, any Fila owners out there in general? I don't know anyone who owns them!

I know of a fila that passed the temperament test, but given the fact that you disappear for 2 minutes and have someone else hold your dog for CGC....that is completely out of the question for us. Oh and no whining from the dog either and I don't want that 2 minutes for my dog to maul the stranger.

A fila mix might be able to pass but not a fila with true temp, I know mine wouldn't pass even though I have done extensive training and socializing them to everything in the world, would not pass the neutral stranger or the petting or the handing them off to a stranger for 2 minutes as I go out of site, ya right hahahahahaha, they wouldn't be holding them for very long, they would have to go change their undies hahahaha and im sure they would have to go have their face reattached as mine go for the face when they lunge at a stranger.

Maybe it is not my place but I have to tell you that your statement "but as I am showing the world, it all depends how they are raised" really doesn't sit well with me. I do not own a Fila but I am an admirer and have done tons of research. Fila's shouldn't be able to pass this test AND statements like the one you made could convince someone who hasn't done any research to believe that they could get a Fila and raise it "right" and their dog will be friendly. The problem is if this person gets a true Fila and tries that same thing and they come into their temperament and someone gets hurt and then the dog gets blamed and put down.......

I guess my question is: Why did you get Fila's if you wanted dogs that could be more social? Why is it that you are trying to "show the world" that not all Fila's are Fila Like?

If you are raising both dogs and one is protective and the other isn't ...How is it "how they are raised"?

Did not care for that statement either!
My Luke, being a well socialized Fila/EM mix is very friendly, but has shown that he does not like every single person we meet. I would not trust a stranger with him even though he clearly have more of a EM disposition. I think is kind of irresponsible to think you can change the way a dog is hardwired. I for one am not taking any chances with Luke, just in case "the Fila side" should come out as he mature.

I will have say, my 1st Fila had her CGC.
with that said,it was at a Fila working weekend and
had a spin on it for the Fila. mostly, it was for fun and
a funny big HA HA HA my Fila has her CGC!! get my drift!?
I do not know of any with Filas that worry about having or not
having a CGC on their dogs. if that was what were had Filas for
we would chose different breeds. I also hate when they are
called Brazilian Mastiffs, this is Mastiff forum we do know what
Fila Brasileiro's are.

I also have major flags raised at your "but as I am showing the world, it all depends how they are raised"
statement. that is so, so wrong in relation to the Filas and many other Mastiff breeds.

what was your reasoning to get one Fila, much less two?

many of us here have had Filas for a very long time, myself 20+ yrs now.

Welcome aboard FilaForever. As you have noticed, we have a few Fila owners and they are very passionate and knowledgeable about the breed. I hope that you listened to what they have to say about the Fila because it sounds like you want your Fila to be a lab, not going to happen.
