hey guys, I bought mastiff pup from a breeder in delhi, india. The breeder was poddarkennels. I actually wanted to buy an english mastiff puppy, and on the day I received my puppy, i took it to the vet for a regular check up and that is when the vet said that the puppy looked like a bullmastiff pup. So i just wanted to share some pics and get a clear view from you experts and owners out there. Its been 1 year since i have my pup. here are some photos from the front view and the side view. He is 32 inches and around 55 kilos.

And is he too thin....I use Eukanuba Lamb and Rice formula mixed with boiled eggs. Do you suggest any other diet for him. Or is he alright? And please reply which breed he is.

THANKS A LOT!!!!!!!!!!

I would suggest there is some Bullmastiff in him but he won't fully mature for anything up to 2.5 more years yet. It's easy to be confused on breed types though: my rescue dog Ben, who I got a 5 months, has been identified, by people who breed these dogs in some cases, as a Dogue De Bordeaux, English Mastiff, Bullmastiff, or Neo/BM cross. to be honest though, if you are happy with his temperment and health I shouldn't worry too much, he looks like a good dog to me.

I don't think he is a pure EM if he is one. His head is different then what you would expect to see on an EM at this stage I think (EM people correct me if I am wrong but he looks different in the head the ones from around here at that age) He is a handsome looking boy and he certainly looks to be in great health, so if you are happy with him then I think that is all that matters.

If you did go expecting to get a purebred EM and you aren't certain you got that breed of dog I am not sure where you would go from here. Do you have papers for this guy or were you looking to breed him that it would be a big concern if he isn't a purebred?

Wild. He looks more Bullmastiff than English, but he's also too tall and narrow to be 100% Bull. Hair is too short to be 100% English. I think there has been some mixing in his family. Good looking dog though. :)

The thing is.....we havent got any papers on him. All we got was a vet paper and how to take care of him cd. We were assured to get the papers afterwards. But since then i have registered him as of unkown pedigree. Although I see a lot of bull in him, I cant get the thought out of my head that he is very thin to be a bull. Well, I am not planning to breed him so there is no problem with that. Any way thanks for your time. !!!!

So do you guys think that he will fill out a bit more?? Should I give him mutton or chicken or any specific "mastiff" meat????

At this point I think he looks good although a standing shot or one taken from above him would be easier to tell. We like the last rib to be visible on our dogs until they are 18 months to 2 years and we are sure that they have matured to their full size pretty much. If he is showing more then the last rib when at rest then you might want to up his food a bit, some dogs are more active then others and require a little more in the way of calories.

Regardless of what he is he sure is a handsome boy!

The last rib is surely visible and he has a high activity rate. Although we give him around 600 - 700 grams a day in each meal. THanks a lot for the help. The other ribs are not visible at all. So would he fill out after 2 years.....or earlier....or later??? Sorry to bother you, but i just want my dog to be on the top!!!! :D

No worries there is no such thing as bothering on this board, we are all here to learn from each other and share what we know. I would say he is getting enough if you see the last rib but the others aren't visable. Dogs fill out a differing rates, from different mastiff breeds to even different lines in the same breed but for a large breed I think the rule of thumb is they aren't done maturing until at least 2 years and some are a slower maturing line that takes sometimes 3 to 4 years before being completely filled out and mature. It is pretty much a play it by ear at this point... if he looks like he is starting to slow down and getting a little chubby on the amount of food that used to keep him in peak condition then I would say he has probably leveled out. He looks to be fairly active so you might never get to a point where he looks like you can cut back his food (we have a female like this, she seems to breath off the calories in her food and at maturity can still eat 4 to 5 cups (1000 to 1250 grams/day) and do nothing more then hold the rug down in front of the couch all day and still look like she runs miles.

Boxer mastiff mix. I can see it from a mile away. His front shoulders and the roundness of the snout give it away.

The only thing thats gonna make him fill out is mother nature. Just keep feeding him and let the rest work itself out. Feeding more won't make him fill out faster, just make him fat lol. He will pack on muscle himself.

He looks a lot like a BM, or BM mix, or as someone said a Boxer mix... at 32" he's way too tall to be all BM, so I'd say half or more EM... You measured the 32" at his shoulder right? Not his head?

the head is indicative of being BullMastiff, but the height is definitely something that leads us to believe that he may be English. I have a Huge English that I love and his head NEVER looked like nor has any true English that I have ever seen. But still a beautiful boy non-the-less!
