Built another Dog Crate

I got an order for a custom crate for a Black Lab. I found a bunch of oak and walnut pallets and made this heavy duty crate.

The top is actually removable. See the 2 holes in the top edge? I made a peg block that you just slide the pegs into the holes one set on each side and the top is locked solid in place.

The family put it at the foot of the bed then as a night stand. it looks great in both places. I love the top on this one it is Walnut and Oak with the zebra grain. it was very hard to sell it.

It really is pretty-- and functional. Nice job. :)

Mike, between your collars and the custom dog crates, you might have a nice business taking off...

I wish. No one is really buying right now. It's just pocket change at this time. Paid for my new (used) table saw though.

I think it took about 15 hours. I had to take breaks because we had bad weather. And the wood got wet before I could finish sanding and seal it.
If you look around like at construction sites or, plumbing or hardware stores look for pallets that are grey in color or a real dark brown. Those are oak, walnut and mahogany. Also make sure they are stamped HT or PT not BT or anything else. Those are chemically treated and nasty.

Hey Mike I heard there is a fire burning up there, is it close to you?
Any threat to your neighborhood?
I've been out of town for a week and only heard rumors.

that looks amazing.. I could really use one like that for my cane Corso - Boerboel mix puppy, but he has chewed through his last wire crate so I would be afraid of him doing the same to the beautiful wood.

@ DDSK, Fire is 22 miles away but still giving us smoke problems.

@Diesell99, I have thought that for dogs that chew I could get some BBQ grates and bolt them on the slats to prevent the dog from cheing up the wood
