Hi everyone!! I currently have the most handsome mastiff who is absolutely the best family dog I could ask for. But recently I've come across a litter of fila cane corso mix puppies! I'm wondering if anyone has had experience with this type of dog? And would it be reccomended for families with small children?

Do you know anything about a Fila? Do you know anything about the parents of the litter? I don't know much about the Cane. However, a Fila is just not for anyone. They are very hard dogs, that if they have proper temp. will not accept strangers and needs an experienced handler. It is hard to tell what their temp will be when they are young. It can take a year or two for them to mature into it. So just because it is a sweet puppy now does not mean it will be in a couple of years. Unless, this is the type of dog you want I would proceed with caution.

I own 2 and they are the best dogs I have ever owned but they are a big responsibility and we have had to change our lifestyle just to own them.

CC's need A LOT of socializing beginning at a young age. Our female we adopted as an adult, fostered her for a rescue through a broke femur repair & other surgeries, she bonded with us. . . come time to move her to her next foster home well it didnt go too well, she bit someone in the butt. Thankfully we were in the position to adopt her & she's been with us since. They are very loyal & can be extremely protective. We recently adopted a male CC pup (he's 12 1/2 wks now) and since his vacc's were good I have been taking him out every day SOMEWHERE to meet anyone & everyone we can ... he's starting a group puppy class soon & I plan to go up from there with him.

Having a CC is a huge responsibility and will require some commitment on your part to properly socialize but to then still be prepared that the dog could one day only like you& your family.

Its a great breed & we fell in love with them but its a lot of work & not a dog for everyone.

Both breed are cosiderebly harder temped than most puppies. It would make a great protection dog. That is if your up to the challenge on training and reinforcing your house. Its different than reinforcing to keep people out. You will need to facilitate keeping the dog in and not attacking a stranger. Our fila mix is 6 months now around 80# and would hurt someone given the chance. She is great with our family and a core group of regular friends. But She has a death to all strangers attitude that is very prominate. At this point at home is where she mostly displays it. Out and about she is very standoffish. If a person is fearful of her she senses them as something to be watched out for. This is probably the most gentle and sensitive dog I have ever had, But on the same hand she is one of the most volitile. So research reasearch research.

Our blue CC whose 5 we're guessing - she was a foster to adopt from a rescue when she was already an adult ... but you just explained her to a T "If a person is fearful of her she senses them as something to be watched out for"

Fila's are awsome dogs. Awsome family dogs. But are not for the faint of heart. Kona is under a year and she will lunge at anything she thinks is a threat. You aint coming in the house. She can never be off leash in public. They are very hard dogs to own if you value your freedom I assure you. No one else can watch them for you. They HAVE to have their people so kenals aint to good. They need to run mor than alot of big dogs.

Again they are the best dogs. But know what your getting into before you get into it.

Yeah they need a lot of exercise. Delilah gets very destructive if she isnt taking daily to blow off steam. We live on the lake and there are miles of shoreline that most of the time are vacant and I dont have to look very hard to find somewhere to take her where people are not atleast.

Read, read and read. Though I might sound like a jerk answering the question this way.. If you have to ask then the answer is NO. Do not get these breeds to be around small children, they are not for a novice dog owner. They are NOT for MANY very experienced dog owners either.
