Cherry Eye Surgery and aggression

So we moved to a new house and had our 6 mnth old mastiff at our vets boarding over night while he was there he picked up an eye infection the next day from picking him up he woke up with cherry eye. we took him to our new vet as we had moved to a different city. Walter walked into the new vet happy as normal. the vet tried to manually push the cherry eye back in. he let her do this the first time, but the second time she came to do it, he got very angry (understandably this hurt him) and I have never seen him act this way he was growling and lunging at the vet. we set up an appointment to have the cherry eye tacked down the next day. he came home acting normal. poor baby was so stressed out at this point. when we returned to the same vet for surgery walter immediately became aggressive with the vet. he was sedated and had a successful surgery he was also neutered at the same time. when we went to pick him up the vet brought him out to us. walter lay on his back for a belly rub from me, I turned to pay for his services and the vet came into the room. walter went mad. growling and lunging (still under sedation and not fully awake at this point) so far his aggression has only been against the vet and it was shocking for me as I had never seen him act like that. my husband took him outside away from the vet but when I walked out he was acting out against my husband, as if he did not know who he was. remember he was still coming out of the sedation medication. he was viciously growling trying to lunge at him. because he just had surgery the most my husband could do was hold the leash so to hold him away from him. we finally got him into the car and home where he seemed to relax immediately and calm down. waking up the next day he was our friendly walter again. we have children, and we thought best to keep them away from him for a couple days while he recovers. today they said hello to him. he was good with the youngest but when our 9 yr old came out he started to growl at him. this was so concerning to me why he reacted like that. my son was not scared and after a few seconds walter was fine with him again. licking and playing with him. we are signing him up for obedience training, I figure the poor baby was put through so much stress and pain he was just not himself and confused of his surroundings, but i would love to hear other owners opinions as well.

I agree, he was in pain due to the vet manipulating the eye and stressed. People do not realize that dogs get stressed when the family moves, just like humans.

I agree, to keep the kids away from him while he heals.

Do you do any OB training at home with him? That is a great bonding tool to train him and allow the kids to do some training with him too.
