DDB Head Growth

Hi
My male DDB is now 7 months, when do they start to grow Head size?
Is there a rough time frame or age this starts to happen or is it a individual thing as to when they grow out thier head.
Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

DDB's take at least two years to reach full maturation. I have noticed that my DDB's have had really odd growth rates. One day it seems their body parts are too big or too small for their body and then all of sudden they look like a Dogue, lol.

At about a year to 1-1/2 his head will start to look in proportion to his body. But their heads can grow slowly until the age of 3.

This was Hagrid at about 8-9 months. His head still looked small compared to his body.

And here he is at just after 1 year. His hind end grew a bit faster than his front.

And again at 18-20 months

Also, they will gain in thickness from 1-2 years. Not so much in height in the second year.

You should start to see alot of change in your dogue as he will be in a bit of a growth spurt about now..as mentioned they continually grow up to the age of 2-3 years old although probably will not gain much height at all after a year or so but will fill out considerably. I think its hard to notice their growth when you see them everyday...its usually other people that dont live with the dog that notice it more.Dave has slowed right down now and he is 18 months old and we forget he has another year of filling out to do!! He is already over 150lb..27-28 inches to the shoulder and head is similar to his height.

Here is my pup @ 3 months; @ 7 months; and today @ 20 months.

I do remember waking up one day and his head just suddenly grew large, LOL. Maybe somewhere around 1 year or so. Someone mentioned the other day that Mateo's head is bigger than his butt, LOL. At this stage, that may be true. He's still growing (slowly), so I am not sure how everything will end up proportionally by age 3..

Did you see much weight gain after 20 months with Hagrid?

head size will depend on many factors. Lineage , age of neutering if you do( the later you neuter the more head growth from what i was told by my vet). But DDB have been know to grow head until the age of three. But the safe bet is when a Dog hits his sexual maturity you will see more head and width growth. about 13 months old. I know my current male went from 24 " to 26 1/2 head size in 3 months from the ages of 9 to now 12 months. getting an idea what his parents and grand parents look like should give you a good idea on head size at maturity. From what i've learned from other owners and breeders more of the mother's side determines quite a bit of the dogs size and structure at maturity. My boys mother is a giant for a female, 160 LBS and the father was maybe 120 pounds. And this boy is a monster like his mom 135 LBS at 11 months. But he carries all the type from the father's lineage . But 7 months is the gangley stage don't worry every DDB looks like a ugly duckling at this age.
