his is tragic a loss and my thoughts are with the family of this young girl. But it infuriates me that most of the press have been wrongly accusing DDB's.

That's horrible :(

Not sure why they used the pictures they did in the first article...probably just a news group trying to be the first to report on the incident and didn't check all their facts in their rush to be first.

There is definitely something missing in this story. Maybe I'm just stupid but I don't think I would allow an abused dog around my toddler. Thoughts and prayers go out to this family.

The dog that did this was an old English Bulldog, one of the breeds looking to bring the bulldog back to a healthy state, they're sometimes referred to as the Aylestone Bulldog. From talking to someone who works for the RSPCA it seems as if the shelter the dog was from was in the habit of sometimes letting dogs be adopted without proper assessments of temperament etc.

I'm from the UK and this story was not reported on after the "news" channels realised they'd made a mistake. As far as I can find out,
!. The dog had been "rescued" 2 weeks prior.
2. They where keeping it in a 1st (2nd in american) floor flat, Flats are NOT large in England. So at least 1 mastiff and 1 bulldog in a flat:(.

I blame no-one, it's a long list of mistakes made by people who should have known better.
Whats more distressing for those of us in the UK is the Press's eagerness to report it as a mastiff then NOT admit they had made an error and NOT correct it publicly,
They've banned pits now. needlessly, and seem to be AFTER MASTIFFS.
Sad but true.

Jimi is right, BM's are getting a lot of bad press as well and often because people misidentify them. What pisses me off is these people who are making all this fuss don't care enough to educate themselves on the issues and in my opinion don't actually care about this particular issue really, it's more about them wanting others to see them as caring proactive people, if it wasn't the large breed bandwagon they'd find some other cause to latch on to instead.

Hi everyone, I have a DDB x Italian massiff, and I agree with everyone they are after massiffs ! My beautiful DDB has a destruction order on her head and she did not even do anything , but because the mans a vet and works for the RSPCA made a complaint ,I was charged with section 3 of the dangerous dog act. I have been bitten by rat dogs so have my dogs and the police have done nothing but because mines a massiff and his a vet who I was told by police does not lie my massiff has the order, I am waiting court. This is a warning I was told by police even if anyone is scared by our dogs looking at them you can be charged.

This is why England sucks. My heart goes out to the family im from the uk things here are just not done right.Rescue centres do not carry out many checks some not any. There is a ddb in our local dog home hes beautiful they have had him 3 weeks are already they have said he can go to a home with young children just because he seems friendly and he is but how do they know around children he could've have been treated badly by them previous. We have offered to foster him until he finds a forever home we have a cane corso and had rotties before so had experience with large breeds. We don't want this handsome fellow to be placed somewhere that can give these mastiff breeds a bad reputation so fingers crossed.

I too am very saddened to learn of the little girl's death. The information being put out on in the media is not 100% correct and indeed the first photo of the dog was a white bull dog type and not of a DDB now being depicted as the dog responsible. BAD PRESS !

I firmly believe that large breed should not be rehomed with small children and 110% agree that a flat (English sized ones) are not appropriate homes for mastiff types. I really hope Glen gets to foster the ddb he mentions and that it get a suitable home.
