Dog Back Pack

Someone asked about dog backpacks a while back, and I finally got a bunch of pictures taken of Denna modeling the one we have.

It's the large Ruff Wear Backpack. I got it about 8 years ago for our DaneX, purchased at REI... can't remember the price... not cheap.

Our DaneX topped out at 100lbs, and this pack was really too big for him. It does have enough adjustments that we made it work, but a smaller one would have been better for him.

Denna is growing into it nicely, it already fits her better than it did him. Her back is much wider that his.

She wore it while we were camping last week. I put one 12oz water bottle in each side and we walked about 2 miles... of course, Denna was RUNNING after her cousin (a blue heeler/boarder collie mix) half the time... with the pack on. It didn't slow her down one bit.

The harness seems comfortable for her, and she's good at ignoring the packs - until she bumps them into something.

While we've had it 8 years... it's probably only got about 30 miles on it. Some trips in the rain, though.

Since it fits Denna better, I'm hoping to make more use of it in the near future.

I think ours is a ruff wear too but our shepherd wears it. It was definitely on the pricey side but totally worth it. Now that Azzys almost two I want to get her one. Denna's looking great as usual!

We only put one water bottle in each side... and this was only her 2nd time wearing it at all (first time was around the 'hood on our normal walks - with it empty). She didn't seem to care it was there, but I think it does tire her out a bit to have it on. We'll have to work up to carrying weight slowly.

I would've bought azzy one sooner but I wasn't sure what she was doing size wise. For almost a year she didn't seem to grow but the last couple of weeks she looks like she filled out some.

That's the one we have, but we use just the heavy duty harness part way more than the backpack. Not sure it they are the same model, but ours was $120 on sale 3 years ago.

I have the ruff ware one in green and black, About 2 years old same thing water bottles we put 3 in each side he does not mind
