Dog proof gate latches

What type of gate latch do you use? Jiggers has now figured out how to open both of the gates in my front yard. The backyard is full of construction debris and therefore not safe. I am looking for something that will latch on its own when people, ie the mail lady, use the gate but that the stupid Mensa level dog can't figure out. He is way too smart for his own good. They are not left out on their own for long but with winter here we don't always go out with them, although we do watch since it is only a 3 foot fence. Jiggers could clear it if he wanted to but no he has to open the gate to let them both out.

Our latch is on top of the gate 6 feet up. You have to push down on one end and it will release the latch. Our gate is I guess what you would call a "double" though. The gate door itself is 6" deep at least.

Either double latch it (say a hook and eye for the 2nd one, maybe on the other side of the fence from the main one), or find a latch that requires two hands to open.

I put an actual lock with a code on my one gate so the kids dont leave it open and the other gate has a pull down and out so she'll hopefully never be able to do that!!Good luck

I put the latch on the outside if the gate. Hopefully he won't try to figure out the combination of steps he'd have to do to open it now. Lean over the gate, pull up on the latch and push on the gate. Step 2 should stop him, at least for a while.
