Thank you. I guess that's what I'm getting at.... I hear there pack dogs so I haven't herd about d/a. But they have to guard better than a golden retriever. What dog would you compare there attitude with stranger/non pack members? There should be no people aggression. ......

I have had many breeds. This dogo breed is verry unique. Like no other I can compare. There just quirky dogs.
I am very interested in learning about the breed - and have been considering one - way WAY down the road. I would be very appreciative of any information, insights, experiences you could share. I'm very curious about their quirks since you mentioned them as well.
My main interests as this point are having a (more or less) non-drooly guardian breed. I'm curious about how they do with guests, other people who are not family - in general. I'm also curious about their level of dog tolerance. I currently have a very reactive/DA pit bull and I would (in the next breed I choose) like to tone it down a notch. I don't necessarily need dog friendly - but I would like to do agility and maybe some other activities...and have a dog that can contain itself and think through the simple sheer presence of other dogs in it's general vicinity.
Any other info or points you think are important or worth consideration would also be appreciated.

My Dogo is on the way, so I can't answer your questions about their quirks, and I discovered the breed 8 years ago, decided to get one, and researched 2 years before pulling the trigger, but my initial thought is "get one, they seem to be the perfect capable, powerful, gentle dog". Then I read you want a "protection" dog. Protection from what? Where do you live? I personally own guns for protection. If you want an alarm dog get a chihuahua. If you want a "I will tear your face off in my house" dog, get a Fila...... I think non-working Dogos are family dogs requiring a LOT of stimuli outside the house....runs,swims, mental, et
I'm not sure where I said I wanted a dog for protection...if I did I mis-spoke. I did say I wanted a "guardian breed" but by that - all I meant was that mastiffs are referred to as "guardian breeds" meaning in general they are more likely to be loving towards their families but aloof or a bit leery of strangers (at least that is how I understand it)- unlike the APBT who LOVES everyone and the only strangers are "really good friends they haven't had a chance to maul with their tongues and clean their tonsils yet". And that only bothers me sometimes because...well...I'd like to feel just a little bit special damn it!!
But with regards to the protection piece - I'm a 5'1" 105 pound female - but my dogs are always...mine. - I don't want them protecting me because I don't want them getting hurt and anyone who wants to hurt my dog is going to have to go through me first. (May not be hard, but it will still slow them down)
I will be very interested in reading about your experiences with your Dogo, enjoy your new addition!!!
