dry food kibble choices? EARTHBORN, ACANA, TOTW

Mastiff breeders you have all recommended earthborne, Acana, TOTW, but which bag do you feed your puppy (not adult, large breed puppy or all life stages).Earthborn holistic primitive natural has tons of meat in it, which I like, but has a 1.5 calcium rate and I'm wondering if that's too high, others may not think so. Also, not sure which Acana food would meet the ratio either since their kind of high, and TOTW doesn''t list their calcium & phosphorus on their website. Which foods are recommended out of those that meets the needs?

The Acana Pacifica we get doesn't specify an age range. It's subheader is "regional formula" on the bag. 60% saltwater fish ingredients, 40% regional fruits and veggies, 0% grain, no tapioca, no water added. Crude protein 33%, crude fat 17%, crude fibre 5%, moisture 10%, calcium 1.5%, phosphorus 1.2%, omega 6 2.5%, omega 3 2%, and glucosamine and chondrotin. First bunch of ingredients: boneless salmon, salmon meal, herring meal, whitefish meal, green peas, red lentils, boneless herring, boneless flounder, herring oil,....etc etc with fish, veg, fruit, herbs and there's only one item on the whole list, the last one, I had to look up because I don't think I'd ever eaten it....a doggie probiotic.

I love Earthborn meadow feast and coastal catch for puppies. I personally fed Earthborn primitive as well to two English Mastiffs puppies and they did great on it.

The calcium is higher on the primitive but so is the kcal/cup which means you would feed less of it to meet the same energy and nutrition needs. Since you should be feeding less, the overall amount of calcium in the diet should be around the same as a more moderate choice.

I'm using the Earthborn adult large breed/grain free for my mastiff puppy (appropriately low in calcium, phosphorus and calories) and the coastal catch for my older dogs. Very happy with it. I also feed raw. The Acana Pacifica is on my radar too.

I plan on slowly winging my pup into raw, just trying to find a kibble that works first. What the very first thing you fed your dog raw?

Here's hoping it works out for you! I'd do the raw thing if I could, but I can't.

That was a very long time ago so I'm not sure....I was waiting to get a new puppy in early 2000 and decided to test the diet with my older GSDx, so 1999. I imagine some sort of chicken parts, but I'd been giving my dogs raw marrow and knuckle bones as chewies for years before that. Glad the Acana is working out, I'm going to try some of that too, I think! I'm a believer in feeding a variety of foods. :)

I see! It seems to be doing well, haven't winged him all the way off of his old food and the new Acana, but difference is still there. I know Acana is 1.5 in calcium meets a 1.3:1 ratio in calcium and phos. Is this OK for him? I don't want him to grow to fast.
