Has anyone around San Diego area had their mastiff (cane corso) ears cropped? If so, when's the earliest latest to do it and a good vet dr..?

About time cane Corso gives a lot of information on why you should, but it's up to the owner.

There are benefits to cropped ears yes. But I think it's viewed as causing unnecessary pain/trauma to a pup for mostly cosmetic reason? Sort of like circumcision. Sure it's a little more hygienic, but really necessary?

I'm think I read about this subject here before. Try searching. I felt obligated to comment because there were so many views and no replies =)

It's all personal preference, everyone has an opinion whether for it or against it, just like religion, poltics, ect...

My only question is if anyone knows anybody around this area so I can see their work.

That's what it comes down to. Hope you find what you are looking for!

I honestly would want my CC cropped (if i had one). I'd want it done as early as possible so the ears tissue isn't as developed.

As a kid my stepdad used to crop all our pups ears and tails. He'd do it early enough so that they were fully healed or damn near it by 8 weeks (time for sale/delivery).

Thank you! I wish mine was cropped before we picked him up over and done with I don't have to watch him go through it. His tail was cropped, so that's a plus.

My girls have their tails cropped but natural ears.
I kind of wish we had done the ears though.
I would start your search with breeders in the San Diego area and see who they use, I know there are a couple down there I saw when looking for my last pup.
Good luck and Go Chargers!

We have a Corso from About Time Cane Corso. I believe they usually do their cropping before 8 weeks.
Laura and Richard drive all of their puppies to a vet in Colorado who does their cropping and does an amazing job... not too long and not too short.
I will say that aside from the aesthetic reasons there are safety reasons as well. Having 3 dogs who like to play hard as well as the fact that most Corsos play hard ear tearing is a very real possibility which nobody wants to deal with.
I also know that they crop ALL of their show and working pups.
I have heard more than one breeder say that having a Corso with natural ears while competing in shows has put their dog at a disadvantage... which is why often you will see dogs with natural ears stacked with their ears held up so as to show their head structure better.
Also as their ears are floppier than say a bullmastiffs ears they are even more prone to flying nun ears.

Here's a few pics of our boys cropping... personally I love they way they look. He is 14 months now. His were done at 8 weeks.

I don't let my puppies play that rough. But they have such a size difference I don't want Hank to hurt Roxy. You are right though it takes a good hand to crop ears and have them look juuuuust right.

@2Bullmastiffs&aCaneCorso: I think his ears look great!

Thanks EverythingEnglishMastiff :)
We don't encourage rough play either and with our Bullmastiffs never had them really do it. However Angus is our first Cane Corso and he loves it... not mean just HARD lol.
However with our French Bulldog and dogs smaller than him it's like he knows he has the advantage lol he lays down to play and everything!!
