Easily transportable large dog crates....

Apollo is over 28" at the shoulder and will likely hit 29" before he's done, and yes, he's longer than tall. Can someone suggest a reasonably easily transportable crate for possible show use that I can take a closer look at?

If he doesn't get crazy in a crate I would use a wire one and just put a partition in the vehicle. I know some with Danes that don't bring their dogs in until they are ready to show... they wait until group starts and then get their dog and sit outside the door wait for ring call.

He does very well in the car, I don't crate him in the car at all, just have a divider so he can't climb into the front. Just wasn't sure if that was allowed.

If you're just taking Apollo to the shows, & he doesn't need a crate for the car, you don't HAVE to have a crate for the show. If he's dog aggressive then you're going to want to stay outside the building or away from the ring until it's your time. If you're there by yourself then bathroom breaks for you mean he has to go back into the car. We never take a crate to the shows, but there's also at least 2 of us with 2 dogs (only 1 shows, the other can't be left alone for medical reasons). And neither of the dogs are dog aggessive.

not dog aggressive, highly dog friendly, to the point of being a nut, but not aggressive. Cool, that works.

Having shown dogs for years we always have a setup as we call it with crates and a grooming table where the dogs have a comfortable place to lay down and relax with all of their toys and treats as some days can be very long depending on how well you do in your group...sometimes we are there all day from 7:30 - 4:00 or later...It's also good for the dogs to get used to being part of all of the noise and commotion to learn what all this "Show" stuff is all about so they don't get freaked out when they go in the ring...We use wire crates as they fold down nicely for transporting but they can be quite heavy and also X-pens if the show venue permits them...If your dog is not a chewer I love by far the canvas type crates for portability and they are very lightweight to carry as well...the crate I love the best for my Mastiiff right now is the gogo crate as the top unzips so he can sit up and look around and not be bumping his head constantly on the top of the kennel as he is quite tall...here is a website for you to look at...http://www.helpingudders.com/cat-Beds+-+Crates-55.aspx Good Luck finding something that suits your needs...

what are the measurements of the extra large one? or which ever one you have, the site only gives one measurement I assume is the length? As to whether or not he'd chew...it depends on the item so I'd have to see, but that would be far more transportable than the wire one we have for him. Assuming the venue is OK with him in the car I can definetly work with that, but I'd been thinking for a while that we ought to have a transportable crate too....

Glad you found something that might work for you. I hope you enjoy showing. We are looking forward to starting up again here in a couple of weeks with our first local show of the season.

It is nice to have them in the ring as it certainly can make it easier so you aren't running back and forth. The canvas one works on the adults here but the puppies haven't learned show place manners so they roll them :p For us we are in a small area and sometimes the shows are in compact locations and when you have handlers that take up a huge chunk of area with all the grooming tables, pens and crates (like 15+ dogs) room can sometimes be at a premium and we know our dogs are great going in and out so when they start our working group the girls come in and chill until they go on and then they hang out for a little while after.

Well, and I don't have a problem with keeping him in the car, but we're also training for IWPA pulling and they prefer crated dogs, and it would be handy to HAVE....
