Enzo ear posting, need help!

Hey guys. I have been attempting to post Enzo's ears for the past week and i have to do a new one every day since he shakes its out. Pretty much everything i find has tutorials on taping young puppy ears, like 2-5 months old. I need a way to tape them that will actually stay. The way i get the top fold taped seems to be the money maker. If i dont get it just right then they wont stand when he shakes out the tape. I have been using Johnson and Johnson athletic tape and 5/8 backer rod. Any videos or pics that show how to get that top fold taped will be greatly appreciated. Im posting a few pics of the taping i just did a few minutes ago on him

It looks to me that your not pulling up on the ear and holding it up while your taping, using to much tape, and not squeezing the tape together once you get the post in. Grab the ear after you post and squeeze the tape together. Your posts look loose to me and wouldnt make it a day. There being shaken out because your not making them exactly right and there not comfortable enought for Enzo , his size has nothing to do with it. That last picture clearly shows your posts are to loose...When you post them right they will stand straight up and look more round with less tape. It takes some practice but your on the right path and your being persistant, when he does get the posts out do the ears try to stand at all yet?

He shook out his tape two nights ago and his left ear was standing good while the right was folding over. I retaped and this morning woke up to a shook out ear taping. I massaged them for a lil and gave them an hour but both stayed folded over this time.

I squeeszed the tape together btw. I have been taping and then squessing so its stays. My problem is i cant get the backer rod in deep enough to support the bottom fold without it irritating the hell out of him. So im trying to focus on the top fold instead. I dont know, simply been trial and error up until this point and im not going to stop till there standing perfect!

Dont leave the posts out at all from now on. Keep them posted 24/7 for 2 weeks and only massage them when your changing the posts. Have emergency posts pre ready. Another trick is to take the foam post and take a piece of J&J tape and wrap the post, this will make the tape stick to the post better and make post stronger. When i would post my Dobie i would wrap the post then flip the tape over and wrap the post again with the sticky side out. Just to give you an idea i posted my Doberman for a good 2 months till they were perfect in my eyes.

Have you tried using mole skin you can cut it to fit inside the ear better might be better then backer rod

I tried once but all i could find to bond it to the ear was liquid band aid and that seemed to really irritate him. Do you have any advice and step by step instructions for doing it? Ill try it again.

No, they stay that way.I think the vet here in Iowa did a great job!i I keep thinking he looks skinny around 105.

Our vet taped the two cones together, so it sort of looked like Amira had a headband on. She took them out several times and we attempted to get the cones in ourselves. You have to push them in very deep. This is what it looked like, and they stayed very well. She just happens to be very stubborn and hated the process.

That's also the way we post. I haven't had any luck keeping the posts on an active puppy for more than a couple hours using any other method.

Hey guys, thanks for all the help. I made a posting out of the cardboard tube that comes on wire hangers and taping it together with backer rod. I did the twist to make sure the sticky side is out and then successfully posted Enzo's ears. Put backer rod across both ears to keep them upright. This posting has been in for more than 48 hours now. Im going to leave this post on for as long as he will let it. Enzo is 105 lbs now at exactly 9 months old. Im hoping he stays under 145 lbs. Ill post pics of the ears as soon as there ready.
