Enzo Ear Posting Update

Hey guys! This is the only way i was able to post a 8 month old 100 pounder's ears without him shaking it loose. Took a couple trys to get the right tape and post but this one seems to be holding. Keeping my fingers crossed that a few more days of this and they will be standing on their own. The main trick i found out was to use as little amount of tape and backer rod as necessary.

Id try to get the ears to not lean in like you have it will cause issues, like building a house on a crooked foundation. If your going to use this method add alittle to your "crown" so ears are straight up and down. You could just take a piece of tape from one ear to other and back again and would be closer to head then your "crown". Bravo for your efforts!!!

The reason i put the backer rod on was to prevent him from shaking the tape off. His head is at least 20 lbs if not more. When he shakes, doesn't matter how good i tape them, they shake off. So the rod has a nice support bend that keeps the ears standing up, when they are just taped they droop.

you need longer posts down into the ear if there not staying up without help. Doesnt look like you have much post going down in ear. Hold on ill tape up an ear with a longer post....

After my experience with my boxer always getting attacked by dogs and they go straight for the ears, i saw that cropped ears are a lot harder to get ahold of if heaven forbid he gets attacked again. He was bit on the face when he was 4 months old by a 5 yr old Vichla at the dog park btw. It also helps the ears to stay open and allow air flow which means less ear infections. It also helps him to be alert at all times instead of when he wants to perk up what would have been his huge ears. Of course i look the look of it also. When i fell in love with boxers, i was frisbee golfing with some friends and a lady was out for a walk with her newborn baby in a stroller and her male boxer. This boxer stared us down for 5 minutes from as they approached and left. He had cropped ears and looked like a champion. I promised my ex girlfriend that got me my boxer that i wouldnt crop hers because she was a female. So there is a few advantages to cropping the ears. I can also say that my Enzo was crying and whining all day long when he got the gps chip put in his leg, but when he got his ears done, he didnt cry, whine, or show that he needed any pain meds of any sort. I also plan on studding him out in the future and it will help that he looks like a Cane Corso should.

Can I ask how you managed to find a vet that would crop at that age? Also did they have to go shorter because of the age?

Hey there. I took Enzo in to do his ears at 8 weeks but the problem was he was only 8 lbs and was having some blood issues. We waited a month and i brought him back at 12 weeks and he weighed in at 22 lbs. Thats when i had them done. At 12 Weeks old. Reason im taping them now is because i was waiting till after he was done teething because when teething, the cartiledge stays soft. He been done teething for 2 months now and the ears are still not standing.

Are you planning on having health test done hips elbows etc ?Having his ears cropped does not make him a good stud If he is not up to the standard then he should not be bred . That's why this bred is going down hill fast BYB'S just put two dogs together with out doing any thing else

I am planning on getting the health test done for studs. I am not a backyard breeder and i dont intend on being one. I want to provide Enzo for stud services, not have a backyard litter. I payed $1500 for him and at least want to get some of that back. If he doesnt pass the stud test than i wont stud him out, plain and simple. YOU ONLY BREED TO BETTER THE BREED!! I am not some inconsiderate and naive dog owner.

I don't think anyone was calling you an inconsiderate and naive dog owner. :) That question is pretty standard on here. So please don't take offense to it.

I asked a simple question that's all . In this post you said you paid 1500 so you want to get some of it back that don't make sense to me ! If you paid 1500 it sounds like you bought a pet not a potential stud I spent about 10 grand in the past two years I would not think of starting him out to make money back but that's just me to each his own
