Eukanuba is 12/14 & 12/15 in Orlando. AKC all-breed & specialties are 12/10 - 12/13 at same venue. Anyone going to the all-breed, or invited to Eukanuba?

We'll be there for the sunday show. We would've liked to have competed in the owner handler comp. on friday but found out it's invite only We never attended any of those shows so no invite for us.

I know, we're hoping the all-breed shows at the beginning of the week will be a major for bm bitches; maybe Ruby can finally get that last major. Good luck; I know you guys will shine.

I thought Eukanuba changed the rules that is now an open entry and not by invite only... Kind of like Westminster, they don't even have to be a CH anymore, just have won a major :( Takes away from these shows being special IMO Still should be fun and a huge good luck to everyone going :)

Cody, They have an owner handler series that's invite only on friday not the specialty days. You've had to have participated in those OH shows in order to enter that invite only owner handler show. We never attended any of those shows this yr so don't qualify for that event on friday. We now know for next yr. The national show is on sat and sun and open to all. We're in the top 20 this year. Lucy is #14. She's 5th female in this country according to canine chronicle breed finals .Statistics | Canine Chronicle We're proud for not knowing anything about showing a dog 3 yrs ago and handling her ourselves. We also don't go to shows every weekend which some top dogs do so we're proud of our acheivements.

Doguelover that is AWESOME!!! I love hearing about OH dogs kicking butt :D Huge congrats! I didn't mean anything derogatory about my comment, I am just sad that the shows are changing. However reaching where you have done as a OH is amazing! Seriously, it really does say something about the quality of your dog. You should be VERY proud :D

Dogue you SHOULD be proud. It's difficult to hit that spot, and without campaigning & running aournd to every available show, you've done wonders. It also says a lot about your beautiful dog. Keep it up!

The numbers are in; no majors for us. Crap. Unless she gets a cross over, which is rare. The judge at this show really likes Ruby, but I doubt if he'll do it. And if we don't go, it will change the points for bitches. The room's reserved, lots of friends going to run the Meet the Breeds booth, so Ruby will still be there. Good luck to anyone/everyone showing! Make sure to post results!

Hey! RUBY IS IN THE INTRO FILM ON THE EUKANUBA SITE! It's just a split second; she's in the beginning of the intro vid; she's the one with the Santa hat on! She's at about 1:15..

I have a couple questions about dog shows since I don't know some of the particulars, and I know many of you are very experienced.

What are the rules in dog shows regarding size and breed standard?

Are the judges made aware of the dogs height/weight, or are they basing every thing off of eyeballing?

If the dogs are out side of the breed standard in height/weight are they eliminated from competition? If not do these larger/smaller dogs ever win their breed?

Do you find that most show breeders breed more towards the top of the standard/bottom of the standard? Why is that?

We had one male who was 2" taller than the standard, and brindle. Two strikes against him in the AKC ring. Judges eyeball height & weight. I've never heard of a judge asking or measuring those two standards. But, supposedly, the judge is very well versed in the breed they're judging. It took a long time to get Sumo his CH. because he was so big.
And now, 10 years later, I see a lot of very large bullmastiff males in the ring. I'm pretty sure breeders will try to keep in standards, but on the top edge of height/weight.

ETA: My experience is in AKC. Some others will probably chime in shortly.

IN THEORY, a judge could ask for a wicket to measure the dogs with, in reality I'm not aware of it actually happening in the ring.
