Female Dogue De Bordeaux

Hi I have a will be 12 weeks tomorrow female Dogue de Bordeaux. She weighs 29.6 pounds and I am wondering if this is average. I would like her to be as large as possible. Any searches I have found have said that the average is around 40 pounds, but they are all referring to males. She is healthy and eats Taste of the Wild High Prairie dog food. Any input? Also I am new to this site as of right now, so hopefully I am posting this correctly.

Welcome. I have a male EM so I can't give ideas on DDB sizes but I just wanted to mention that the size that she is as a puppy doesn't necessarily correlate to adult size. At 11 weeks Kryten was one of the smallest males on the forum regardless of breed. He is now 170 lbs at 19 months.

Also mastiffs continue to grow for the first couple of years. Gaining weight too fast can really damage their bones and joints. Just gotta be patient. We'd love to see pics :)

I just checked my vet records because I was curious about my pup at that age.

At 13.5 weeks, Mateo weighed 35 pounds. Now, at 2 years old he weighs 135- I don't think he's done growing yet.

If your pup's body condition looks good, she is probably right on track...

Haha! Since Mayzee is my first mastiff, I am totally fine with her being small. :)

May I ask why you want her to be as large as possible? Slow and steady growth is best for mastiffs.

Is this your first mastiff? Your first DDB?

Goodness, he really is growing up! He still has a puppy face, though. A HUGE puppy face. :p

I agree, don't rush her or try to put weight on her. It's better for her bones to grow up and then her body to fill out. I keep looking at Mayzee and thinking, "Geez, I wish you'd hurry up and grow," but I don't feed her extra or supplement her or anything. I just have to take a deep breath and wait, perhaps not so patiently at times.

DDB do come in various looks too.
most common is the overweight look.
least common is lean
judged on pics found on google images.

Most healthy is lean
Most likely to cause problems is overweight

I know I am new to the forum but have been a mastiff owner for many years. We need to make sure that our dogs health is the first priority and not size. Breeding for size does not do any good for the breed. Remember DDB's are not X-Large breed dogs, they are a large breed. If your looking for size an English mastiff is what you should look for.
