Full Size?

I know it takes around 3 years for a Corso to complete it's growth. From what I have read, much of the growth in the last handful of months is joints and muscle toning. I am wondering when about they are mostly full grown? When does there growth rate start to slow down? For a while there Leo was adding about 10 pounds per week. That seems to have slowed down now, but he is too heavy for us to weigh on our home scale now, so it is hard to say. He is 6 months old today.

Just wondering? I know every dog will be different, but I am trying to get an idea about when this will all start slowing down, or maybe even that I am way off on this.

Thanks, Ben

Height is usually around a year they are as tall as they are likely to get although there are some odd ones that get another inch or so after. The filling in is when they start to add mass to their bodies and that can take up until 3 years as some lines are slower than others. The will seem to go through periods where they gain large amounts and then slow down so there is no for sure timeline. I always notice when a head has changed on dogs that I haven't seen in a while.

Wow! 10 lbs a week? How much did he weigh the last time you were able to pick him up? I have my husband weigh himself, then pick up my pup and deduct her weight. So far he can still do this...

He went 3 weeks of 10 lbs per week. I would say around the 3 1/2 to 4 month old mark. It was crazy. He was 75 lbs last week. Holding him with my weight (around 160lbs) is too much for our scale to handle, so I have to swing over to the vet to weigh him. I think our scale maxes out around 220.

Not to mention, our digital scale likes to have its weight to be still, and with him squirming around, and his weight it was getting to be a bit much any way.

As always Mary, thanks for your insight.

It is about what I thought, but it occurred to me I had never asked the questions, and I did not think I had read it anywhere.

Being around him so often I don't see the changes in him, but when friends come over, they are always amazed by how much he had change, and how well behaved the breed is.

75lbs at 6 months sounds great! When i read 10lbs a week I was blown away :)...I have been told they grow (speaking of hight) until 1 year, then mext year they fill out and build muscles, gaining from 4 up to 10 pounds!

Francesco, we were shocked every time we put him on a scale for a while. He was the largest of his litter, but was much smaller than most others on this board at 8 weeks. Considerably smaller if I remember correctly. Then in a 3 week span he caught up and passed many others. Now i'd say he is about where he should be in comparison. It goes to show how erratic a corso's growth can be. Growth curves are nice and smooth, but Leo's growth has been anything but.
