How long should it take for a puppy to get used to new food?

We have been trying to get our 11 week old EM (Sarge) used to new puppy food. He had diahrrea when we got him at 6 weeks due to hookworms and isosporin and possibly new food we tried to introduce him too (Prcecise Holistic Giant Breed). The vet put him on antibiotics which he finished. While on the antibiotics, the vet put him on a bland kibble which firmed his stools up. Over past 3 weeks, we converted him slowly from the bland diet to Eagle Pack Holistic Select Giant Breed. He has been on Holistic Select only for a week now. As long as we give him Carafate to line his system, his stools are fine. But when we don't give him any Carafate for a day, his stool get soft again. Would that normally be long enough for his system to adjust? Should we try a different food now or give it some more time?

He goes back to the vet this Friday but I don't get a warm fuzzy from her since she told me he had to be on a large breed puppy food. She didn't seem concerned about the protein or fat content.

I am having similar problems.

I posted this under another thread, but thought it might work here too.

I have a BM at a day shy of 16 weeks he was 43 pounds this week he'll be 17 weeks. I have been tracking his weight gain since we got him and it seems to me that he has been gaining between 2.5 to 4 pounds per week. We have been having problems with his stool being soft to runny and are currently working with our vet to straighten it out. I hope that his weight gain is still on track though. Any suggestions I can bring to the vet are appreciated. He had roundworms when this all started about a month ago and has since been dewormed twice. I'll go in this friday to get another fecal test done. Currently he is taking Metronidazole when his stools start to loosen and go soft again. He was originally on Iams Giant breed Puppy formula. I wanted to get him on better food so I switched to Egal Pack Giant Breed Puppy and that was when things started. He is now eating Bil-Jak Large Breed kibble (for about 2 weeks) and things haven't improved. Do any of you think I should switch him back to Iams? I plan on giving the Bil-Jak a little more time

When giving an antibiotic we add yogurt to the food to make sure we don't kill the healthy bacteria in the gut. We also add some canned pumpkin in dogs that have loose stoole, it is fibre so will just bulk the stoole up a little and usually has them back on track within a few days. Sometimes food choices are all trial and error and as much as we all like our dogs on the best food for them sometimes it isn't a food that agrees with them. If the vet says you are clear of worms and you have tried anything else you can think of do what is best for your dog.

I ran across a website that gives an objective breakdown of all sorts of dog foods. There were literally hundreds upon hundreds of these analysis for all sorts of different formulations, of all sorts of brands. I found that all of the foods I have tired thus far were actually very low scoring, 1 to 2 stars out of 6 possible. So I am going to try Orijen Puppy. It is 100% grain free and based on price shopping from the internet it seems that it isn't priced too much higher. I just need to find a local store that carries it.
