How much weight do French Mastiffs gain between their 1st and 2nd year of age?

Apollo is 10 months old, he will be 11months in 2 weeks. Apollo weights 105 now and I am wondering how much more weight does the french mastiff typically gain between 12-24 months ?

I am sure the blood line and other factors play a role but judging from his current weight being 105 and 23 1/2 at the withers does any one have enough experience to give me a ball park figure?

I read online that 20-30lbs is typical between that this time period. Also, has his head reached maturity at this age?

I dont know much about the father's blood line. His father was very athletic and extremely lean and muscular/defined but small (for a ddb, nonetheless a cool, big dog!) 110-115lbs. The Mothers side was full of HUGE monsters! One of the uncles was 28in at withers 170lbs and not fat. The biggest head I have ever seen. He was part of the Rolex Embrez line ( mothers side also). The mothers Dame was Large Marge, a 150lbs female.

Here is Apollo's Uncle

His mother Jasmin: 130lbsIMG_5349781418522.jpg

Almost impossible to answer this question, it's all relative to the dog at hand. For example: my boy Kujo is about a year older than Apollo and Apollo outweighs him by 5 pounds. Every dog is different...best way to get a good guess is to look at the parents.

Apollo comes from a very handsome line of dogues :) that Jasmin is a beauty!

I agree with Kujo- really hard to say for sure, but of course his bloodlines will give a clue.

Mateo was about 120-ish at one year, and is 143 pounds now at age three. Between 12 and 14 months, he probably gained 13 pounds, and then this past year the next 10. I didn't keep weight records, so it's just a guess.

I think my boy has settled into this weight now, since it hasn't changed in awhile. His father was about 160, his mother 130 pounds.

By the way, Apollo's uncle is a big, thick Bordeaux- reminds me a lot of Mateo's old man. :)

I figured there where to many factors involved.

How much did Kujo weigh at 1 year? I know that "Tank" Apollos father would bounce back and forth between 100-115 from what the breeders tell me. I think Tank may have been closer to 100lbs the day I had seen him and he was a great looking dogue! Great personality too.

Wow, 120lbs at a year. He is a big boy! Is Mateo tall?

He is 26" at the withers, which is I guess about average.

He is a good size. Thats almost the breed max height for AKC standard. He is probably above average but thats just taking into account what I have read online.

I had seen a DDB that was fully mature and was 100lbs at a dog show and looked bigger than Apollo. The other dogs ribs where much wider than Apollo's. Do there ribs widen with age?

Roughly 90 pounds, it took about 7-9 months for him to gain 10 pounds to put him at the 100 pounds he's at now, and he'll be 2 in July. He's my lil mini mastiff :)

Weight is hard to guess. Some DDB's get huge and some just don't. They are all beautiful though :) my friends 18 month old female DDB weighs about 5lbs less than my 19 weeks old EM but I have also seen pictures of how huge they can get :)

Don't know about the weight issue but would like to say he sure is hansom an oh my his folks are BIG

The thing about overall weight, too, is that the mass of bone accounts for a lot- and DDBs tend to be heavy in the bone department-- especially their skull, LOL.

Just adding that because people tend to think of weight being primarily fat and muscle... at least when it comes to ourselves. :)

Great point!

The DDB does have the largest head in the canine family...wonder if there is a way to weigh just their heads...considering the average human head weighs about 8 pounds, my guess is the average DDB head weighs about 12 pounds.

I heard the human head weighs between 8-12 pounds, with the brain coming in at about 5 pounds.

Whenever people comment about the size of Mateo's head, I just shake my head and say, "Yeah, he has a really thick skull....and very, very little brain, LOL."

debonnaire and apollo's uncle (in my opinion) are over weight dogs. As in carrying fat. So im sure if you are willing to have a fat dog, you can beat that weight easily, as they do love their dinner generally. Im sure any dogue would be willing to assist in 'how big can i get' games.
All the photos are extreemly handsome specimens. Awesome features, and goregous chops i want to squish. You have some good looking genes there!
