Is my EM puppy underweight?

We brought home our first Mastiff puppy in May from the breeder. She was a bit underweight from looking at the weight charts. She was 4 months old and weighed 35lbs. Once we put her on some really good food (Holistic Select Giant Breed puppy) she started to gain a little bit of weight. She is now 6 1/2 months old and weighs 83.4lbs.

She looks very lean, I can see her ribs. I want to know if this is bad. She doesn't have the thickness/stockiness of the other Mastiffs her age.

I can post a picture if you guys want me to.

Thanks!

I am a first time EM owner, so I'm sure others are far more knowledgeable on this topic. I will say though that I have a 6 month old male that is about the same weight as yours. When we brought him home at 3 months, he was only 26 lbs. Since then he's gained a slow but steady 16 lbs a month. I've listened to what other people have said and stopped worrying about his weight. He's lean and is not as stocky as other Mastiff puppies- but he's healthy! If your puppy is gaining weight, and is healthy and happy, I wouldn't worry too much :) Would love to see a picture of your girl!

Puppies grow, UP, OUT and AROUND at all different times. One day she could wake up with LOOONG legs and a true hour glass and a week later look more stubby. 83lbs at 6 months sounds good. Do you have a picture? Besides it helping us tell if she is too lean... we would LOVE to see it. heheh

But I agree... if she has energy and is a happy healthy girl, don't fret! :-D

We are in the same boat, Appa is 13 weeks and only weighs 29 lbs! He looks health, maybe just a "late bloomer"?

Riocca (Rioja) will be 12 months old on Thursday and seems to be growing okay but after having her weighed yesterday she is the same weight as she was in June which is 77lbs (35kg). She hasn't showed the same interest in food since she came into season, although she is eating a bit more now, anyone else had the same experience with theirs.

Zeus was right around 85lbs at 6 months... Then he had surgery and he's been struggling to get back to normal eating so he's been sitting right at 90ish lbs for almost a month... No problems though, mastiffs will get to whatever genetically displaced weight they were meant to either way.

Thank you for the wonderful replies! Unfortunately I don't have any updated pics of her.. She's fast and a wiggle worm.. She's now 7.5 months and weighs 93lbs.. Still can see her ribs though. She's eating good. I was thinking of getting some Canned Food to add to her kibble, does anyone want to suggest some brands/"flavors"?

I wouldn't add the canned food- you want her to stay lean! You should be able to see a little ribs-it's much healthier for her in the long run...

Our vet said, "those dogs that look a little thin are actually closer to a healthy weight and are likely healthier than an overweight dog"
In some cases dog weight has become as much of an issue as human weight- lean and with muscle is a healthy thing. :-D I guess if you see all of the ribs be worried, but I agree with sabrina, you should be able to see a hint of a couple at times.

Hit of ribs are a good thing. It helps to control the growth and saves the hips, spine, and overall bone health as she grows.

I agree, canned food is not a good thing unless you really need to add it. The potential to add weight too fast is too high.
