Metal or mesh truck/car barrier.

My SO and I want to get some barriers for our car and truck when the pup, pup get bigger, we will use this along side a seat belt harness of course. What are your experiences with both the metal and mesh barriers. Pro's Con's? Would a mesh barrier be to un pratical for a mastiff?

I'm with Cindy... I was considering a seat-belt harness for Denna until I did a little research. I'd rather she get thrown clear during an accident with a chance at surviving, than get decapitated during a short-stop. It only took use reminding Denna 3 or 4 times to stay in the back seat for her not to try coming forward again.

With proper training, I would think any barrier - mesh or metal - would be fine. One key would be how well it ties into the car - my sister had one that didn't 'stick' well enough, and it would let go and fall on the dog... which was NOT a good scene.

I have a mesh barrier between the front seats. To be honest I don't know yet if it will hold up to a persistent mastiff. Kryten has only been in the car once since I got it and that was less than 24h post surgery so he was still kinda dopey.

I have a friend who rolled his car & totaled it with his lab in the backseat. She tried to get up front, bumped into him causing him to lose control & flipped the car landing on the roof of it. The accident caused the dog to be ejected from the car, but she survived. Had she been confined by a seat belt harness, I'm not sure she would've made it. I have seen people who get the divider for the backs of their SUVs that look like metal bars, but I can't say whether they're good or bad

I have a fabric divider, but its to keep the dogs from climbing into the front while I'm driving not for restraint. For real safety your best bet is a sturdy, non-collapsable, crate.

My cage divider is just to prevent the dogs from getting in front when I go in the store or some such thing. It has fallen down once or twice though and freaked Jade out pretty bad. She got over it but still it's a pain.

Thanks guys, mainly what I am looking for is a divider that will keep the beast in the back seat while we are driving.

I dont have any divider in my vehicle but I really should. Mufasa rides in the truck to work everyday I just fold down the middle row of seats and he sleeps on my third row seat. Sometimes he wanders towards the front but he just does it so he can see out the front window but he never tries to get in the front seat.

we did not have a divider when we had out pit/tosa cross, although we should have. She was really good with staying in the back until Tyler my SO had to stomp on the breaks because a moose ran infront of us, needless to say as soon as Mitsu saw the moose she tried to go through the windshield to get it. It was a pain in the a$$ to get her back into the back seat haha
