Microchip Mismatch

We recently purchased a 5 month old supposedly purebred Cane Corso. However, the microchip number on the AKC registration and purchase agreement do not match the microchip in the dog. Does anyone have any idea about how this could have happened or what it means? The breeder accused us of trying to make a stink and offered to conduct parentage DNA tests if we paid for them. We found this odd because she usually writes pages justifying her questionable behavior. We reported this to AKC, but haven't heard from them. Thoughts?

How much of a mix-up?
Same litter, different dog? or same breeder at least?
I can see the breeder (and/or vet) getting paperwork mixed up if they have a lot of litters on the ground at once...

Are you working the dog and/or considering breeding down the line, or is this "just" a companion? i.e. how important is it to have the DNA properly accounted for?

Hopefully you can get the chip re-registered back to you, and hopefully the AKC will also investigate (but I don't know what their staffing is for this sort of thing)... not sure what else you might need or how much the DNA tests are - that might be worth it, in any case.

The breeder represented it as her dog, but a different breeder signed the AKC paperwork. One chip number is registered to each of the breeders involved . We have reported this to AKC and received no response. It is a companion/ support/guard dog. As she gets older she looks more like a boxer than a corso. We paid a lot because we wanted a true Corso in size and temperament.
Someone who breeds boxers asked my daughter if she has papers to show her as a boxer. Her size and facial structure resemble that of a boxer more than a Corso.
Again we sent information to AKC and received an email stating that they would contact us via mail. I'm expecting them to blow me off in part, because the breeder who sold the dog is a Breeder of Merit.
We paid for and expected to receive a healthy well socialized 6 month old pup and received a 5 month old infested with worms and completely afraid of people. Both our vet and trainer said that there is no way that this dog was properly socialized before we got her.

We suspect some kind of fraud, but I don't know enough about the process to know if that is possible. The way that the breeder justifies her outrageous behavior with pages of writing but offered no explanation for the microchop mixup, not even admitting that the mix up happened makes us more suspicious. Is there a DNA or other test to determine whether or not the dog is actually a purebred Corso? Is intentional fraud a possibility?
