My Boerboel Pup is Glad to Meet You

Hi everybody, I'm new to this forum, just thought I'd say hello! We are a family living in Staffordshire England and I have been interested in Mastiff breeds for many years, but only recently joined the 'club'. We have two Ridgebacks, one Vizsla and a Boerboel puppy, called Bilbo. He is 5 months old today and weighs 70lbs (32kg). He was neither the biggest, nor the smallest in the litter, he is very active, affectionate, with no sign of aggression, but his boisterousness gets him into lots of trouble with our Ridgeback girls (mother and daughter, 13yrs & 10yrs). As there doesn't appear to be a growth chart for Boerboels on the forum, you may be interested in Bilbos:
8 weeks 20lbs
10 weeks 29lbs
12 weeks 39lbs
3 months 41lbs
14 weeks 43lbs
16 weeks 52lbs
4 months 57lbs
5 months 70lbs

Welcome aboard. I'd never heard of a Boerboel before but after searching online, they look beautiful. Care to post some pictures of yours?

Above is Bilbo at 2 months and below at 41/2 months after winning best male puppy at the annual SABT show.

He is a big boned, active dog with a wonderful temperament.

Thanks Musicdeb, perhaps I should have mentioned how many male pups were there, but I don't want to deflate his ego......you could count them on one hand! His Dad was last year's European champion, so we have high hopes, but Bilbo will always be our champion whatever happens and no doubt Titan is yours!

To me, it doesn't matter how many were in the contest, Bilbo is a winner. Just saying...

We've been looking at the breed and visiting breeders for about three years and are very pleased with a final choice: Claymore Boerboels. I think it's an awesome breed!

Hi
We are excitedly awaiting the birth of a Claymore Boerboel in the New Year.
Who was the sire of yours - Dico, Berre? Was the mother Frenchie or Charlie?
How has he developed to date?

Lots of questions I know but we are new to the breed and quite excited as we ahven't had a dofg for some time now. :)

Regards

Dan,

Sorry it's taken so long to reply, I've not visited the forum for a long time and have only just read your message. Have you got your Claymore Boerboel now? Bilbo is 21 months and our second Boerboel, Eden, is just 4 months. She is from Zion Boerboels in Cumbria and she's fantastic. Bilbo and Eden are in love as you can see from the photo, they have very different characters, he's boisterous, a little bit naughty with male dogs, but basically a big softy, whereas, she's very affectionate with all other dogs and humans, but has a steely determination to hold on to toys and bones and Bilbo gets too close at his peril! We spend hours just watching their antics, playing with each other, rolling around the floor and falling asleep wrapped in each others legs. Bilbo is now 60kg and Eden is 24kg.

Hope yours is well:)

Sorry Dan, didn't tell you about Bilbo's parents. His dad is Makosi Dico and his mum is Aston. We won't be breeding from our two, but, as we lost our other three, we wanted a companion for Bilbo and have been delighted with our choice. Because Bilbo scored well at the SABT and Boerboel Internation assessments this year and his health scores are so good, we hope to use him as a stud in the New Year. Watch this space!

Hi Bilbodad
Pleased to hear that you have your boerboels now :)
We had quite a "rollercoaster" of good and bad luck with our purchase.
Claymore were unable to supply us in the end as the litter "failed" - producing only one (female) pup.
By a complete stroke of good luck though, Mark Beasley at Topguard kennels had a superb pup available - so we bought our new guy from him.
Our little fella is from Topguards "Ronnie" and Topguards "Lola".
Our Ronny is nearly a year old now.
Very "guardy" at night - but very welcoming of visitors and people he meets in the park.
He's very friendly with other dogs - but in 9 out of 10 cases, they don't like him :)
With parents like Dico and Aston, yours must be quite a lot of dog!
How much did your dog grow after 12 months?
Best Regards
Dan
PS I hope this doesn't come through as a double post - I tried several times to send a pic - unsuccessfully
